Yeah, most people don't care.
Some may try and help you out of humanity, to feel good that they are good people.
There are a rare few who would genuinely want to help you.

Talking about the majority, they don't care about you.
They only *care* for you when you've something that they want.

Never think of people. Be kind, genuine and helpful but not beyond a certain point.

Ctb or not, live boldly, strongly, demand your rights and if you are not given, snatch it with force. Be the one people fear instead of you fearing others.
Even if you are introvert, you can turn into ferocious personality that people have to listen to.

Love the encouragements but I'd rather not fear or be feared. I just feel like being feared entails this sort of role that I must slip into and I'm just not that kind of person. Maybe it's respect instead of fear, no? I feel like respect sticks and fear is only going to work as long as you hold power. The second it's gone, people are going to beat your ass.

Love the encouragements but I'd rather not fear or be feared. I just feel like being feared entails this sort of role that I must slip into and I'm just not that kind of person. Maybe it's respect instead of fear, no? I feel like respect sticks and fear is only going to work as long as you hold power. The second it's gone, people are going to beat your ass.

My perspective may be wrong or may be limited to my own geography.
What I feel is we either control or get controlled by others. Almost everyone around us is trying to control or manipulate others, may be to get attention, or to get that promotion, or to get the love, or to get some other benefit.
If I talk about my personal experience in my office. My lady manager thought that I'll fear her. I'm not one of those kind who fears anyone. When I don't fear death, I don't fear anything else. I gave her a tough fight in the political game she was playing and defeated her at her own game and that made her respect me. The world works quite the opposite, if you are nice and kind to others, some may view you as a nice person but others are going to take you for granted. But when you carry a strong persona, that others can fear while knowing that you are noble soul but you can't be taken for granted, that'll command the respect that you are talking about. This is based solely on my personal experience. I may be wrong and I'm open to it.

I just saw another quote from Ernest; "happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing" or thereabouts. True indeed.
