The world has come a long way with many things. We have peace and democracy in big parts of the world, we have put men on the moon, inventing medicine and we live longer. In many areas things are improving and progressing in the right direction.

But there is one big exception: We the people are still assholes and treat each other like shit!

I'm constantly amazed how rotten some people are! No matter how good our progress is with science, medicine, peace and what not: We humans will always be rotten and evil!

There is no fucking hope! Humans are cancer!

I doubt that humans have a long time left. It's a selfcentered, short sighted species. Humanity is committing suicide which I find pretty funny considering which forum we're on.

On of the best things about my suicide will be that I'll have eliminated another shitty human.

If I could I would extinct humans inmediately; it's proved they don't change, and various carnivores, menacing, hurtful species and I left alive several species animals who could enjoy a life free, with no predators and annoying humans exploting them and ruining their lifes.

I agree that most people are selfish, cruel and intolerant. I used to love people, thought we were born good-hearted. Now that I'm older, I know better. I've sorted out so many "friends" because they failed me, seriously, when I needed them most. Maybe I'm to demanding... There are, however always exeptions. But I trust nobody, I guess that makes me feel even lonelier.

In in today's media one gets indeed to see the worst in humanity.
It is no accident that our society and its state religion 'capitalism' feeds on the most basic and destructive human instinct "greed", which is increasingly overriding any concern for the welfare of people and the environment.
The current US president is a splendid example of that change of tune: a lying and thieving crook, with absolutely zero morals and no empathy for anything or anybody except his own bank account. But he exemplifies those who voted him in, they seem to share his values or - my guess - are too stupid to register his real agenda. The richest 1% in the US now own more than the bottom 90% combined, and yes, these tax dodging scumbags needed another tax cut...
But ultimately and in the bigger picture people don't give a shit about each other: who cares that the 5 dollar T shirt has been produced in Cambodia under horrendous conditions for people and environment, who wastes a thought that our wealth in the West is inextricably linked to the exploitation of the third world ? Who cares that oceans and rainforests - detrimental to our survival as humans - are being wrecked so we can continue our thoughtless consumerism. If today's poor would become rich, they are not becoming more responsible citizens, it would be the same shite, they are not better people.

But nature will take its course, it's not that difficult to predict whats going to happen: a thermonuclear war between the US and China/Russia in the next few years seems unavoidable. There are plenty of potential igniting points around.
History has always gone forth and back between war and peace.
Whether this reset of the clock will change the human mind: I doubt it.

I agree, they are selfish as hell and they do 0 effort for improving as persons. Instead of change, they justify everything they do and for more people who can be harmed they don't care. They always have an excuse for imposing their own interest over the rest of the people. The worst part of thes is when others see it as something normal or even ethic too and support to keep this vortex of selfishness destroying the rest of persons.

I see that but I also see a lot of people caring about the rainforest, trying to eat a vegetarian diet, and actually buying clothes ethically sourced. In my country, we have 10% vegetarians and vegans now because people actually care about the animals and don't eat meat. That is amazing! We also have a lot of ethical labels which are really popular, many people are trying to reduce their impact.
If you want to be something good for the world, show small acts of kindness in your life or buy responsibly if you can afford it. Be the change you want to see in the world. I'm certainly no saint, but I am vegetarian, almost never buy new clothes and try to buy local products. I also don't fly much, don't own a car and take public transportation everywhere.

That is a fair argument and yes, I also see some people here in Europe caring a lot e.g. the environment.
On a global scale though things are not looking that good:
the US still uses an irresponsible amount of energy per inhabitant, the pollution issues regarding India and China, to name few, are
horrendous. And I think the vast majority of any population does not really think what consequences their choices ultimately have.
There are massive vested interests from companies that run the economy to keep it that way.
I am afraid that the capitalist system might react too late to correct the damage as their only incentive ever is to make a profit and not
think beyond that. Also in recent years the system has geared towards short term profitability in a more strict way, so any long term planning is no longer desirable. The investors want to see quarterly profits and nothing else...
But I agree with you that the number of 'aware' people has risen, I doubt this will stem the tide though...

Especially when we have a government that creates perverse incentives and controls money. Because human beings are so corruptable is why it's so important that individuals are completely free in society. I mean that if a person is free and is held accountable for all mistakes then it pushes people to try to make smarter decisions. When the state steps in u get things that actually make people worse because so many people will do what is economically in best interest even if it's not moral. Otherwise, eliminate the state influence over our behavior and things would shift in a hurry. Individuals can't get away with so much bad behavior when there is no manipulation or conditioning by governments over people. But when we are controlled through various ways it brings out the worst in people.

We haven't had true free market capitalism in America for a long time. We have been living under socialism for many decades now but it's like getting close to the end because socialism always fails. The government starts to run out of other people's money. I should say money stolen from the most well off because they do pay the majority of taxes.

No lol! That's actually what it's moving to now under socialism. The government wipes out the middle class in various ways. Decades ago there was less gap between the top and bottom but under socialism what we have now it becomes way more unequal.

I'm talking about the United States. If you live somewhere else it might be different. But the culture and people in the USA is very competitive and cutthroat. People always want to be better and will look down on others whenever they can - even in just everyday situations socially etc.

I'm in the US. It depends where u are and I suppose how u come across to people. I do think it is true that it's very competitive and cutthroat but I still started to find friends even though I'm low status at this point in the eyes of society. I still managed to find people who didn't judge me so harshly.

Problem is, our brain has been specifically shaped by evolution to take care of our Ego first, then to establish some kind of social connections to guarantee survival further in time; from this point of view "generosity" and "selflessness" could be conceived as egoistical tools to help each one of us to give others a proof that we're reliable and deserving of worthiness and goodies because we've contributed to society.

Nobody will try to establish deep connections with you if you don't push any effort forward in order to mean something for this random somebody. It's always all about bargains.

It can't be otherwise. Blame nature for this

And not to mention the Mollie Tibbetts case. Many of us on here don't want to live, but it appeared that Mollie enjoyed life. A piece of shit is an understatement to describe someone who would stab someone to death just because they rejected their advances. Her family is also saying to stop politicizing her death but people keep doing it anyway. Some people say she deserved it because of her political views and she supported DREAMERS. It disgusts me.

You put it so succinctly. Given the nature of humans to compete and survive, I often wonder how many more years before this planet is dried up and everyone dies. 100 years? 200? I wish I could know.

I don't know, but I think that us going Star Trek and exploring the universe is a pipe dream (thankfully). We'll go extinct on this rock. One manned mission to the Moon in fifty years is not quick enough progress considering how quickly we are destroying Earth.

I don't think humans are anything special. I don't dislike the species anymore than I dislike nature itself. It's nature and the instinct to survive and be successful that is the source of selfishness/acts of evil.
