I don't know if this is because I just joined or if it's the holiday season but it feels like a LOT of people are ctb now? Is it always like this here or is it a seasonal thing? Sending my love to all those people.

exactly ;) i think if we didn't have suicide censorship and social pro-life brainwashing, the rate of suicides would increase horriblyWhy? Because the world sucks more and more every day.
Broken education system is a big part of it I think.Yes, suicide rate is increasing lots!

I was shocked about suicides in Japan! The rate is really high and it's a really amazing country. I guess being work-aholics doesn't "work."
Funny that the commenters on these twitter threads think that when coronavirus goes away, so will people's urge to ctb.
They will go back to not caring, business as usual, and the number of us suffering and wanting to ctb will climb while the media refuses to report it in fear of anyone actually taking it seriously.
Edit: found some more news
I think people finding peace is the best thing but it sounds like it's going to be horrible to witness it happening so much. Do you think seeing it happen last year affected you in any way? Also perfect summary of the reasonsLess sun, tis the season, covid-19. Same thing happened here last year. Next 2 months will likely be a whirlwind.
Was newish to the board then so I didn't know how extraordinary it was. I was naive that was just my 1st impression, considered the norm. Only after did the spike become apparent. Seeing the rapid change in the board was astounding. Wish could say differently but I've been caught up in my own problems too much to notice how it affected me before.Broken education system is a big part of it I think.
37 a day just in London omg :( I thought the news was saying suicides hadn't increased but looks like I was wrong.

You being caught up with your own problems was probably for the best. It wouldn't have been healthy to focus on the number of suicides. Was newish to the board then so I didn't know how extraordinary it was. Coming into this year noticing the trend is putting me on edge and I'm sure there will be people I've grown to quietly admire over time who choose to leave now. It happened with GPE. That produced mixed emotions unlike before. It's in our dna to strive for happiness, thus I'll always have a sense of sadness the person wasn't able to find life worth living. However, I now say a silent prayer for some with hope and optimism they're on the wildest, most loving and secure ride that we could never fathom.
Also, I'm considering venturing into the chat to get to know people a bit better and fortify some connection before it may be too late but we'll see. My mental health can be delicate at times and high maintenance as is. Also makes me think... the person I got closest to on this site left in pursuit of recovery. If she happened to ctb i think that would fuck me up, it'd be hard to get past. Thus i feel for posters who were particularly close to those who passed. This place can be intimate, i can see how some will be hurting a little extra. It's tricky bc we came here with demands of free will for ourselves so we must reciprocate the same to support and respect to our friends.
I met her on here and have no idea... never IRL. Haven't reached out to the hilarioussss email address she gave bc want to respect her decision to create space from here. It was @nitrogenYou being caught up with your own problems was probably for the best. It wouldn't have been healthy to focus on the number of suicides.
I wasn't close to that user but I get what you mean. I imagine it's hard to tell someone online "don't go, stay here and try to be happy" without sounding like a pro lifer as well. Our natural reaction is to be sad about their passing.
I'm a bit wary of making connections due to the nature of this forum but I guess trying to connect is what humans do. And you're right, we should treat each other with the same respect we want to be given. My instincts tell me that's wrong but it would make me a massive hypocrite if I came to this site to avoid being told to try to live then begged others to live just so I'd feel better.
Hope your friend's doing better and you find some sort of peace :)
Oh fair enough, that's a tricky situation.I met her on here and have no idea... never IRL. Haven't reached out to the hilarioussss email address she gave bc want to respect her decision to create space from here. It was @nitrogen
Part of the name is "funeralstripper"Oh fair enough, that's a tricky situation.
What's funny about the email address?

Yes, since for years, I've been prescribed Vitamin D along with other pills to help with depression, apparently getting some sun lifts up the spirits, ironic since when you're depressed, you're glued to the bed. But I was forced out due to work and kids, still didn't help, neither did the antidepressants.Less sun, tis the season, covid-19. Same thing happened here last year. I can add you to my Telegram.I met her on here and have no idea... never IRL. Haven't reached out to the hilarioussss email address she gave bc want to respect her decision to create space from here. It was @nitrogen
I joined ss back in January of this year and the amount of goodbye post was high it seemed. However I really wasn't surprised given the time of year. It is fairly "normal" during the holidays the rates go up. However add in covid and economic collapse it's gonna go even higher. I saw Japanese Rates are higher now. I remember years ago they had to put in nets at many skyscrapers because people would jump off the buildings so much.
Think it'll be higher than last year because of this Covid. People's mental health and endless lockdowns and thousands of job losses etcI just read yesterday that according to the CDC the suicide rate dropped last year (2019). We'll see what it looks like for 2020, I bet it's higher.

Suicide Rate Dropped To Lowest Level Since 1999 Last Year
"We do know that thoughts of suicide are more prevalent among the general population now than before COVID-19," said American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Chief Medical Officer Christine Moutier.www.newsweek.com

the more secular and atheistic a society gets the more suicide there is.Yes, suicide rate is increasing lots!

Yes I think that's definitely true . Most likely if an atheistic person gets to a point of no return in their life where they see no chance at improvement and they hit a point where it's all downhill they will CTB. They don't have the "fear god" thing goingthe more secular and atheistic a society gets the more suicide there is.
It's much more to do with more likelihood of being demoralized and neurotic and using a perceived "freedom" to enslave with vice and emptiness that means they end up depressed and a mess to begin with, they will of course claim everything is stupid and they are super intelligent but this is just the ego refusing to admit it is wrong and has failed because you actually aren't intelligent at all and got stuck at sophomoric hyper rationality akin to the soviet union.Yes I think that's definitely true .
