Even in the heart of a relatively normal little town, I feel I might as well be stranded a thousand miles away on some deserted little island. I mean, heck, at least a traditional castaway has the hope of one day being rescued, or building a raft and making their escape to the sea in a gamble to help speed up the process. In my case, there's nothing out there. What's more, it's clear to me now that there never was. As it is, I've plodded around my proverbial little island for what is coming to be thousands of times and, needless to say, I'm really quite sick of it. Granted, there's an abundance of quiet and space enough to allow me a livable area of my own, but that still doesn't take away or soothe the soul crushing emptiness of occupying the place itself. If I were Tom Hanks' character from the film where he portrays a castaway, I'd imagine I'd be a lot closer to putting that makeshift noose around my neck, instead of waiting out the sheer futility of it all.
