If I shoot myself with the barrel in my mouth pointing up slightly, but miss the brainstem, is there still a good chance of dying?

If you do it somewhere remote like a forest, I believe you'll still die. Blood loss, et cetera. If you do it in your room and your neighbors hear you whatsoever then yeah you might get saved and be disfigured and brain damaged maybe?

I don't think there's really any chance of surviving if you did it in a remote place where anyone couldn't intervene.

If you're far away from anyone who might find you and "save" you, and you render yourself incapable of calling for help, then I imagine so, yes. I've seen a video of a guy who was mutilated but survived, and that's probably because he did it in the living room of his goddamn family home. Out in the woods or the desert- I think you have more chance.

yes there is still a huge chance of dying, but it may be very painful and not instantenous this is why hitting brainstem is important

What kind and caliber of gun? 12 gauge shotgun aimed as above will blow enough of your brains out of your head to be deadly. A 22lr may not be enough.

Also agree about doing it where you won't be found for a while

shotgun is not necessary if handgun is aimed correctly.
But of course if someone has access to shotgun, its better, because with shotgun you dont have to aim precisely.

where to aim? i've read that intra-oral (in the mouth) pointing towards the back of the mouth, not the roof. OR pointing directly behind the ear. i also want to know what kind of gun would be powerful enough but without too much kick-back. so many questions.

I'll duck your question, and say instead: Don't miss the brainstem. If you choose to ctb using a firearm, plan it properly, so you can't fail.. Do it right. This is one method you can't afford to mess up.

Incidentally, if I was going to ctb with a firearm (I'm not) I would use my shotgun, not a handgun. I think it would be easier to aim a shotgun accurately.
