Minimal amount of inert gas

I saw a video of Philippe Nitschke in which he distributed small gas cylinders from a van ( Mad Dog Brewing). Those cylinders were so small and light that even old ladies handled them easily. I also saw the 2L disposable N canisters in the Peaceful Pill Handbook. I can't help wondering what might be the minimal amount of gas that one can use successfully. I mean, I would guess about 1 cubic meter might be enough for a reliable procedure... But those small canisters may be only 1/10 of that. Do you think this method could work with a 100 L nylon bag? ( No continuous flow. )

Could it be that it works with such a small about of gas because they are old and frail?
