Being in peace with the status quo is importantant to make a living. Unlike other medical fields, mental health is politically motivated. Any unwanted thought and behavior can be judged as mental illness as long as the majority/ the status quo agrees so. There is also no blood test or brain scan to confirm or disconfirm most mental illnesses. This cocktail becomes explosive when thinking about suicide, as both the status quo and the general population find it repulsive. So, these charlatans came in to characterize suicides as being a manifestation of mental disease to take away our choices and rights as the status quo wants. Suicide used to be "illegal" as you deprived a subject from the king or church, and now it's a manifestation of mental illness. In 1800s black slaves trying to escape from their masters had drapetomania, today if you are trying to escape from this abusive life and society you are insane/ "depressed". Mental health professionals play a key role in interfering with the right to suicide, because they get paid by pathologizing and fixing behaviour that the status quo/the majority disagrees with.
