My mom was telling me at breakfast this morning that I need to stop taking Melatonin every night because some study says that people who take Melatonin regularly are 90% more likely to have heart failure. But I have enough difficulty sleeping as is. Besides, how often does a man just shy of 33 have heart failure? Would this be a viable method to C.T.B.?

I'd wanna see the methodology of that study, because it seems to me that people who already have health problems are more likely to have trouble sleeping. As people get older they are also more likely to have trouble sleeping and also heart failure. Everyone dies of something.

You should NEVER take hormones of any kind without a doctor. Melatonin is probably one of the most harmful "supplements" available. Every doctor worth his salt will tell you the same thing. Its only gonna make your sleep worse in the long run.

I'm 65 now, and have been taking one 1000-mg capsule of Valerian root at 10 p.m. followed by one 5-mg capsule of Melatonin at 11 p.m. every night since the beginning of 2024. Combined with just under half a bottle of vodka, starting at 7 p.m. this reliably ensures at least 7 hours of sound sleep for me. I'm in near perfect health for someone of my age. So I can't at all confirm any harmful effects of Melatonin, and as a means of self-deliverance, it is completely ineffective.

No, the study is misinterpreted. Melatonin doesn't cause heart failure, it's the underlying causes (sleep apnea, obstructive airways, etc) that also make people have insomnia that cause heart failure.

I know man but there are much better ways of getting help sleeping. I take Trazadone 100mg and it works great for me. It's really cheap too. Less than $5 a month cash price.

Try Trazodone 100mg. Its less than $10 a month and works great for me to get to sleep. Ask your doctor they hand it out like candy.

Not a method ofc, but since it worries you, that says a lot (since if you were on the path to CTB, it would make no difference either way).

No hormones without discussing with your doctor but run right out and get trazidone? Do you own stock in them or something?

I tried trazodone before. I don't think it did much for me. I take Melatonin and clomipramine every night.

Oh, I'm not worried. I just decided to post about it.

In all due respect I don't think your as healthy as you think you are, vodka cripples everything in your body.

Saying melatonin, a supplement is horrible for you, even with doctors advice, then turning around and suggesting people go out and take unprescribed Trazadone, an SSRI, is a choice. I too think melatonin is overused and can have negative side effects long term, but swapping it for an SSRI like that's somehow safer and without its own, arguably much bigger risks, is crazy.

I didn't mean just go out and black market buy the stuff. I should have been more clear. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist always. Thought it went without saying. Just trying to give the guy an idea to tell his doctor.
