I'm very much guilty of Googling suicide often and reading articles or stories about recent suicides, and even though you can argue that it makes these stories easier to find for people curious about suicide, don't you think some publishers take it a little too far when they have an entire categories on their websites dedicated to suicide. I'm specifically talking about Mirror but I've seen other news publishers do the same.

When I look at this page, I just feel a little bit sick to my stomach that our suffering is used as entertainment but they try to disguise or gaslight people into believing it's a tribute? Those people are no different to all of us here. We're hurting and sad. Every article on that page is filled with that persons pain, suffering and personal details of their lives which they likely never wanted to be public, national and international knowledge.

Even their introduction makes me feel ill. "News surrounding suicide cases being heard in Britain and around the world. Check back for updates on the latest inquests.". When I read that, all I see is "yep, more suicides to come soon, more entertainment for you to read! come back because we're always posting more". It just feels so wrong and so immoral.

I think we can all agree that these type of media outlets main goal is to sensationalize stories for the general public to be eye catching and to create talkative points. To them its that, just a story. They cover so many stories, talk to MH workers who after a two day course think they know how to make everyone feel better, when they don't know there head from there ass. They are misinformed, and they will never understand the general battle or problems we have, they wanna villainize us because we are 'crazy' (yet if they had a bad day because they got criticized, they'd probably be crying 'im having a mental health day' because they couldn't take the heat, you reap what you sew.

To me it is a bit disrespectful as the people who ctb never gave their permission to be included. I just feel like someones death is a personal thing, rather than something to be made into a news story. I think that if the people who died were able to see themselves in the news many of them would be horrified, especially if their article is focused on suicide prevention and includes hotlines and things like that. I think that maybe articles would only be a positive thing if they talked about how suicide can be a rational choice and about the right to die.

I'm personally not too bothered about hotlines and footnotes on these articles about suicide prevention because I think everybody deserves the chance to second guess their actions before they commit to their decision. I think there's probably a lot of people who CTB impulsively when they might've in fact wanted to live but they were just in a heightened emotional state or in a situation that they couldn't see out from at the time they took their life. At the end of the day if someone is determined enough to take their life all they have to do is ignore the information about support.

I just hate the spectacle that these news outlets turn someone personal and private life into. I absolutely agree with you that if those people could see these articles about themselves they would be horrified. What happened to the harmless and innocent obituaries that just said their name, age, where they went to school, one of their achievements and maybe their hobbies or interests. It's disgusting that these publishers think it's morally acceptable to write about the most personal and intimate details of someone's private life, their mental health, significant or traumatic moments in their life that contributed to their decision. It's just nobodies business. It's so awful.

For example "Dad kill's himself after daughter, 29, dies from botched Brazilian bum lift" what the fuck???? Is this meant to be a tribute to the Dad or the daughter.. is this what they really think the dad or the daughter wants to be remembered for? Horrible..

I've lost myself so much, that shit I'm usually angry about doesn't bother me anymore. I just laugh. Heh. Why wouldn't they do something like this? Why the fuck would anyone expect anything different from people? My mom always told me that people will profit off of your suffering; they'd even make you suffer so they can benefit somehow. I'm not bothered though. People are disgusting, yeah yeah we know that. What's new? When I was fourteen, I watched a shock movie where they insinuated raping a newly born infant. What's new? Gore websites have tons - tons of death for entertainment. Some of those people make jokes about fucking dead corpses if they're pretty enough. Eh, what's new? I'm sure one of us in this forum will die, and someone, somewhere, is gonna spin it into something disgusting. But, cmon, if you've lived more than two years on this damn wasteland we call Earth, you can't be surprised. It's just what we do as people. Thank god we'll all die, though.
