Manga/novels centering on suicide?

Anyone have a favorite manga/novel where the protagonist obsesses on and/or successfully commits suicide? I've read all the bright places, my heart and other black holes, a long way down, no longer human, I watched the orange anime and thought I might read the manga if I run out of substance.

Too often I run into suicide centered media that's littered with toxic positivity and it makes it hard to read, or maybe I'm just cynical. Either way though its much more relatable for me when the character dealing with ideation actually does CTB so if you know any good ones let me know!

Happy Sugar Life

Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawaii (this one does have some nsfw chapters but if you read them on dynasty scans you can see the tags of each chapter and know what ones to skip)

Suicide is not a major theme for the majority of happy sugar life, but the protag does end up turning to it in the end.
Suicide becomes a major theme of Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawaii as the story progresses.

Both are yuri series that in the end the main protag going through with CTB

I'm trying to think as a few manga/animes have had suicide as a theme but I haven't read or watched anime in awhile.


Mirai Nikki- suicide was a theme and I think more so explored in the books

Oyasumi Pun Pun- I remember this was a theme in the book. But a lot of fucked up thing happen so trigger warning.


Sekai Oni- this was definitely a theme in the book butttt a lot of other fucked up things happen so again trigger warning for this one.

Blue friend- this one was pretty short and it was an aspect of the book not per say a theme but kinda?


Thats all I can remember rn going through myanimelist.


I hope others have some recommendations as well.

Its an anime movie but "A silent Voice" its pretty good at least I liked it ,its pretty popular so u might have watched it. If you haven't, I wouldn't say its a 100% about suicide but its a major topic for sure. Hope you find this helpful!

There's this manga called 'Suicide Girl' but idk if it will suit what you're looking for since i haven't read it yet. Still i know it's extremely related about suicide and traumas (it's a magical girl theme btw)

Bell Jar by Sylvia Path. It's an autobiographical novel, just with names changed and prehaps some minor changes to events. the author herself died by suicide soon after it got published.

Suicide Boy is always the first I think of. It's a webcomic I think. It's an on-going series but I don't think a chapter has been released in awhile (I'm caught up).

I know a light novel series, called Bungaku Shoujo or Book Girl in English. I've only read 1 of the novels but I find it really interesting. Other than that, there's also "A silent voice". I know you're not asking for games but if you're interested in major suicide content, I strongly reccomend "Hello Charlotte". I really like the way they portray suicide and mental illnesses there.

I just finished reading Oyasumi Pun Pun, and wow. Fuck. This is one of my favorite mangas now, the story is so painfully fucked. Thank you so much for recommending this to me.

It's mainly about death itself. It's not centered around suicide but suicide has a significant part in the story.
It's a very respectful and emotional piece
