Nobody could really tell what other truly feel inside their hearts(or brain or mind)

especially not from a video recorded for public to watch..

besides everything came down to coping mechanism/escapism. Some turn to ctb other turn to 'positive thinking' or even denial/ toxic positivity

whats certain to every living being is. Nobody likes to suffer out of their will

i saw a famous video something similar and even worse.

about a child with incurable genetic disease suffering his/her whole life then died. public said its inspirational and praise the parents.

how could people not sympathies and condemn with the sufferings of the child which actually not needed

Child tormented out of their will and only the result of the parents doing although they may not do it intentionally but they do know the consequences of bringing a sick child into the world full of threats

the child being brought only to suffer entire life then dying died horribly and people say its inspirational

Thats society with their so called moral.
How people glorified sufferings of others.

Isnt it close to sadomasochism or psychopathic traits which finding goodness out of other peoples suffering

but the thing i cannot understand are the comments in the video saying how it's "inspiring" and how the guys a "hero". whats so inspiring about it? i understand that in life when you face certain difficulties you should try and push through it, and i get the idea of being optimistic. but people have a threshold to how much they can take. how can you lose 99.9% of your ability to do anything and still think like this?

i dont got a problem with this guy, if he wants to continue to live then thats his choice. but the media and the way they pedal this kind of story, and these comments about how its "inspiring" as if we should all aspire to have such a ridiculously high level pro-life outlook, thats what holding back progress. when people want to CTB for legitimate reasons these people will say "well there are people who are in worse situations..." and so you have no right to CTB. that's the problem with these kind of things

For me, if his caregivers are caring, which they must be, that makes a huge difference. The five days I spent in the hospital after having my stroke were five of the best days of my life because of all of the caring I received. Plus the food was amazing, nothing like the terrible hospital food you hear about- I ate like a king for five days. Lots of salads and nicely prepared veggies at every meal, plus nice salman and chicken every day- it was just a normal hospital, but they really made an effort with the healthy food. :)

I actually watched that video many years ago and it tore me up, emotionally. The man has managed to make a life for himself and achieve things with a limited body but an unlimited passion for learning. He is an inspiration despite me not wanting to be here. I truly admire people like him regardless of my own personal feelings and opinions towards life. Thanks for reminding me of him.

Would he feel the same way if he was in physical pain every day?

The ppl saying it's inspiring would be screaming if in the same circumstances.
Yeah unless they had PICA (unable to feel pain)which is very rare disease and abnormal

Any sane people wont feel happy when suffering without benefit especially out of their own will
anti-choice arguments. They'll use cases like his as their 'proof' to claim that all grievances against life are unreasonable. When in fact he's just as extreme as us, but lying on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Many people have been blame because they dont wanna endure the never ending torments by being labelled as weak or wrong and being compared to people who suffer more than them.

i just dont get it. Why should anyone justified that, comparing falling from 2nd floor to falling from 5th floor and saying "theres somebody else got it worse than you so your suffering is nothing, have to be fine& endure"

using the same logic. They cant feel great about their achievement because theyre other people who are always better than them

I hate this shit because he plays perfectly into anti-choice arguments. They'll use cases like his as their 'proof' to claim that all grievances against life are unreasonable. When in fact he's just as extreme as us, but lying on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Yes, I totally agree. I mean , I do believe he is satisfied with his life even though I don't understand it, but he is an extreme case and can't be generalised to other people. The majority of people in his case are absolutely not happy about it, but only an extreme case like his will get attention form the media, the others will just be ignored because it would be too depressing for normal people to think about, and society ( plus mechanisms of evolution) is built around selling hopium to keep perpetuating the species.

Toxic positivity. Would his story be promoted if he was advocating dying?

It's put out so people can say, wow my problems are bad but look at this guy he is an inspiration...

A friend of mine has ALS and has been stuck in a wheelchair for decades, just a little use of his hands. Spends his time browsing the web and reading. He seems happy enough though. It's like someone earlier in the thread pointed out, depression seems to have as much to do with brain chemistry as it does with your situation.

If you suffer in this hell you are "hero". They also called the cashiers at the grocery stores "heros" during the pandemic. I'm telling you whatever runs this world is evil af. When these people say this they don't even know what it means they just say it. That "hero" shit is a sarcastic joke from whoever whatever runs this world.

If somebody spent all day counting the grains of sand on the beach every day, and was happy doing that and claimed their life was perfect, we'd think he'd got a mental health problem wouldn't we?

Does it not logically follow that someone who's been paralyzed from the neck down all his life and claims his life is perfect is equally likely to have a mental health problem?

Interesting.....

Guess its similar to people who have a perfect life but depressed, sad without a reason.

How about bdsm? Theres a limit to it though.
but biologically living creature avoid&dislike sufferings, threats, etc like SI. every living creature react to pain the same. Unless theres an abnormality

I think is all about perspective. If you enjoy being alive, no matter how you live you would think your life is perfect. Maybe he didn't like living like that at first but then he got used. Personally if I were in his situation I would ask for euthanasia. I wouldn't like to live like that.

just watched this video the other day, this man with an "iron lung", lived most his life in this metal tube thing. doesnt seem sad and says he thinks his life is perfect.

but the thing i cannot understand are the comments in the video saying how it's "inspiring" and how the guys a "hero". whats so inspiring about it? i understand that in life when you face certain difficulties you should try and push through it, and i get the idea of being optimistic. but people have a threshold to how much they can take. how can you lose 99.9% of your ability to do anything and still think like this?

i do think this video is inspiring, but not the way most people think. it inspires me to have a reliable CTB method ready, in case i get into some situation like this guy did (he got polio disease), i would CTB the fuck outta here.

Spiritual awakening. When people lose everything in their life, sometimes one's ego collapses in on itself and with it a sense of peace emerges.
