  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

They don't really want MAID to be available for others. Like putting previous suicide attempts or ideation can cause for disqualification is already a sign they don't want to give it to those who really wants it.

I wouldn't have access to it anyway because I'm not Canadian, but this still pisses me off. There's this total refusal to acknowledge that all suicidal people aren't exactly the same. Policy makers and those who would influence them like to look at people who survived impulsive suicide attempts and are glad to be alive, as if their experience were generalizable to all people who want to end their lives. However, the people who would seek MAID are not the people who just had a bad moment once and are fine now. If a painless death surrounded by loved ones is not possible for them, they will reach for the same painful, often gruesome methods suicidal people have always used. It will also be done in secret, to avoid forced hospitalization and drugging. That means their loved ones will get a traumatic "Surprise! Guess who's dead??" call from the authorities—unless they find out by walking into the garage one random day and finding Dad hanging there. That kind of shit can scar generations, and it doesn't have to happen. It will happen though, if the world's "fearless leaders" persist in being stupid.
