Bathed in soft evening light, the Vatican rests in a moment of quiet anticipation. The silhouette of the Sistine Chapel stands clear against the dusky sky, its chimney rising modestly but meaningfully.

Atop the chimney's edge perch two seagulls, close together, calm and watchful. Nestled beside them, a fluffy baby bird - small, hesitant, yet curious. The trio appears like silent guardians of the sacred moment.

Suddenly, white smoke begins to rise - delicate and curling like incense. The birds remain still, as if they understand the gravity of what is unfolding.

In the background, the majestic dome of St. Peter's Basilica reaches into the fading light. Below, in St. Peter's Square, a hushed crowd watches, eyes lifted, hearts stilled. Some point to the smoke; others press their hands in prayer.

It is a moment of transition and peace - as though heaven itself gently nods in approval.

Isn't he considered a moderate and was supposed to be close to the late pope francis?!
i guess so....
I think he is the most political pope,an american...
Not that the pope is not usually political but this one was a move with interests more than the others popes in my humble opinion.
Too bad... I hope the holy spirit acts through him anyway.

You guys shouldn't make assumptions on how he'll be until he actually starts saying and doing stuff~ :) plus, Catholicism is not a religion for specifically the left wing nor specifically the right wing, so the pope HAS to be inherently apolitical and is unless politics starts trying to decide moral issues~ For example, the Catholic Church will never say abortion is okay, but that doesn't mean they're totally pro-MAGA or anything like that at all~ At the same time, the Catholic Church supports immigrants and opposes the death penalty, and this guy seems to as well~

The real question is: if the Pope makes physical contact with the Antipope (yes, it's a real thing), how many megatons would that yield?
If we assume they each have a mass of around 70kg, and that they completely annihilate each other, we can use E=mc^2 to solve for E.
70kg + 70kg = 140kg
140kg * (299792458 m/s)^2
=12582572502315446960 J
=3007.31 megatons of TNT

This would be the equivalent of around 60 Tsar Bombas, the highest-yielding warhead tested on public record.
Put another way, it's over 150,000 times stronger than either of the nukes used on Japan.
Still, that's just a small fraction of the energy carried by the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.

BUT it is 3 times stronger than the estimated yield of Project Sundial: a (supposedly) scrapped plan for a doomsday device capable of causing nuclear winter with a single use. It was designed by Teller, who pushed for the creation of the H-bomb--you know, the scientist from Oppenheimer who thought A-bombs weren't powerful enough and was obsessed with creating his "Super"?

So... is this worthy of a "the two must never meet" Holder's Series-esque creepypasta, or the makings of a meet-cute fanfic with a real banger of an ending?

Ah yes, that explains things like Pope Francis specifically taking stances on issues ranging from environmental issues to divorce to gay marriage. It's because the position of pope is inherently "apolitical"./s

I'm sorry to break it to you, but these are poltical stances. Politics also exists outside of the US, so I don't get why you are bringing up MAGA. Them taking stances on shit like abortion, immigration, and the death penalty is inherently political in nature.

Think you'll be surprised. This guy has openly criticised Trump and his supporters numerous times on social media. It feels weird to me that papal candidates even have social media. But this guy is about as moderate as they come I think.

Your writing is so good! Reminds me of my favorite webnovel... I would probably take an entire day to come up with just a quarter of what you wrote here. Would love to read more of it if you do continue

Not relligious but I am so disappointed with the outcome. I wanted the Filipino Cardinal, totally not because i'm filipino myself, but also he is more progressive and leftist than this pope. And this pope has ties, connections and is involved with other cardinals that have (C)SA allegations against them. I think that a pope with even a single connection or tie to these things should not be, well, the pope.

And also, just because a lesser evil criticises a larger evil, it doesnt make the lesser evil, good.

In a way. The previous Leo was big on social justice.

I mean you can say that but that's not stopping anyone
I did not write and post this text so that some people here can get upset about the new Pope. You can post a separate thread for this in politics and philosophy.

Alright, removed my comments.

I do think it's always fair to question people in power and sympathize with victims of abuse, even or especially when it involves the pope.

But I see it's important to you to keep this thread a certain way.
I don't know the new Pope, I don't know what he did, I wrote and posted the text because I thought the moment with the seagulls and the baby bird was beautiful

It's more about what he didn't do, the accused were his subordinates. Sorry the thread went out of focus from your poetry, these things tend to come up. FWIW I watched the whole event and found it just as moving. And yes the seagull stealing the show was charming.
In the future, I will simply inform myself out of interest and curiosity about what he has or has not done, and then I may even be willing to open a thread in politics and philosophy and exchange ideas with others about it

I misunderstood the purpose of this thread and thought you were opening it up for general discussion on the topic. I apologize for the bit of silliness with which I interjected.
I hope this experience didn't give you a bad impression.
I did enjoy the way you painted the scene. You have a lovely way of composing descriptive text.

And you did a darn good job of it. I had originally missed this moment you described; I guess it had gotten buried in my feed by all the political takes. I went back and watched it because of you. It was quite the poetic moment. Thank you for sharing it.
