I live in a socialist country for all my life, everything is banned here, youtube, reddit, and hell even google, they hide all the information they don't want you to see and their crimes. Yeah you can still access those restricted information and platforms using a VPN or similar stuff, but first of all, it's illegal to use whatever technologies to bypass the firewall, most people don't even realize the firewall exists (you hardly can find any information about these things if you don't use them in the first place). Second of all, the laws here are such a joke, they can criminalize you for any reasons if they like.

Most people are brainwashed when they grow up, propaganda is everywhere, school, television, and the Internet, they are told to love the big brother, love the communist party, and despise everything related to capitalism (especially the American) at the very young age. I don't know if I am lucky or not, but I have a chance to see what's really going on by bypassing the firewall since I am an IT guy. However, once i became a "normal" people, it's really hard to live in a world like this, I can barely make any friends without pretending i am one of them.

It's also a highly atomized society, almost every religious groups, independent small communities are forcibly dismissed by the party, because they are potential liabilities for the regime. They oppress the Muslim people, they use Christian churches as their propaganda tools. You can hardly feel any human connections in such society. In fact, many people don't completely believe in communism any more, since the downfall of the Soviet Union . Now they only care about their money and power, and feel happy when they think they are superior than other people. As an result, the moral decline is the major manifestation in such society. It somehow becomes a fascist and communist monster. There is no empathy for poor and disadvantaged people in this world, especially people in depression. Also, there is no way people can be organized to overthrow the government in such atomized world, i once tried to teach people around me how to bypass the firewall, but after a while they get bored and go back to their normal life.

I am sorry for my poor English, there they don't really teach you some decent English in school (remember most schools are controlled by the party), all they do is teaching you how to pass the stupid exam, unless you take some expensive after school lessons. Most students around me have studied English for ten years straight, but they still can't speak or even understand some basic English news articles.

I worked hard to find a way to immigrate to countries where I can have my freedom back. I was born in a normal family, so I have to make my own money to achieve this goal. Once a while i feel deeply depressed due to the fact that i live in such hell. For the past few years this country becomes more and more totalitarian, they wanna control everything in your life. I don't wanna take it anymore, and the future seems far away from me. Now the only thing that holds me back is my family.

I envy you guys born in normal countries, you can express your opinions for the most of the time without worrying about someone will knock your door at the night, you can be part of some small communities with people share your values.

Living in a capitalist society is also hell.

These are socioeconomic ideologies. They CAN work, but the fucking people who runs it, the people with money, are the ones that fucks everything up. They take advantage of the people that can be taken advantage of which is the majority of the population. Keeping a system that keeps people in poverty or makes it very difficult to get out of it. Once you're born in a shit location, good luck trying to get out of there without any sort of financial support.

For countries like Cuba, they are failing economically because of USA's trade block imposed on them. It fucks up their economy and in turn, makes them struggle to support the community. Then this image is shown on the news that socialism or communism fails and shouldn't be brought in the USA. Don't ever believe what's said on the news. It's easily manipulated specially if you're watching a radically right news station.
There's also evidence of Fox News manipulating a video in Cuba, straight out lying on TV, that the people are protesting against socialism. When the video was actually cropped and the most important part of the video was removed -- which were signs SUPPORTING socialism.

I see that, there are a lot of things going on in the US especially the past few years, and sometime they are really messed up. But I think the nature of the communism (Leninism) determines there is no way to limit the power of the party. In western countries however, you have built some good laws and infrastructures to restrict the power of a single person or group. Citizens have power to make decisions for their own countries. If some bad things happened, people have the power (election, protest and such) to change that and prevent similar things from happening again.

The media on the other hand, i think the freedom of speech is also applied to them, even they are fake news. In my opinion it's your responsibility to filter them. If you let the government do that for you, they all will become propaganda like where i live now.

That power is an illusion here. Elections are rigged and backed by rich white men. Votes are determined by electoral college which in the end makes your vote useless. Protests hardly ever work unless the whole country decides to really make a stand which is very rare. The last time real change happened, it was because of a revolution. As much as people like to believe the fantasy that things can be solved without violence, there MUST be violence to make change.

Laws to restrict power? Have you seen the CEO of Amazon? Have you seen who bought off Twitter to make into his own little platform?
The system fails a whole lot more than you like to imagine in the US. Don't fall for that nonsense.

I know how to filter them, but that can't be said to the rest of the country. Lots of people eat the shit these news stations feed them. It's all connected. You can blame the individual to take better care on what they should believe, but it's the lack of education many don't have which causes them to believe it in the first place. High School education here is also filled with propaganda. Would you blame the kids for not thinking critically enough? They don't figure this shit out until getting into College which provides a little bit better information on the real world, but it's still controlled to an extent. Children are controlled by adults. These children grow up learning these values and knowledge that are instilled in them. Some are able to break free from it, some stick with it for the rest of their lives. It's the adult's responsibility to inform these children who will be the next generation. Not everyone gets this kind of open-minded treatment. Hence the constant ignorance that will never end in which ever country you live in.

I understand why you would choose the US. I honestly would hesitantly still choose to be here because there ARE still better things here in comparison to certain countries. There are things that I can do here that I probably won't be able to in other countries. However if I really had the money to move without financial worry, I would choose another such as Australia for a better living situation or some country in Europe if possible.

I'm not comparing US to Venezuela. I don't even know the situation in Venezuela is. And if we are comparing the two and choosing between which one to live in, US will still be better clearly. However, the point is things in the US aren't what they seem.

I live in China, the final boss of the world that against people's freedom. I didn't specifically mention that because i was somehow afraid they can find me in real life. China has the ability to build the most sophisticated firewall in the world, and controls every domestic Internet companies. They even build the firewall for other regimes like Iran. I guess most totalitarian countries would do the same if they have the technology and the money.

I like Cuba, especially your music, and you don't need to face the same stress (exam, better than everyone that kinda bs) as Chinese people I suppose, due to the differences in traditions. I kinda understand why people in the free world are fond of communism, because all the information here are positive and looks good, since they are all propaganda. And the ideology sounds like an utopia in the books. Western countries on the other hand, their medias are able to tell people the bad news happened in the society, and people can speak bad things freely about their society

THIS! It is like you said. Sadly that's how this worlds works. Violence seems to be the only way to fight for freedom. "Democracy" is just an illusion, a tool to keep the people calm, to keep them in their bubbles, to make them think they could influence anything. It's the perfect way to divide the people. Without unity there will be no revolution...

It makes me very angry how many younger Americans view the US. They have no idea what it is like to live elsewhere and get caught up in fantasies that socialism or to an extreme communism is better. There is a reason the US and western countries are the places many want to immigrate to. The US is not perfect and everyday it seems we are losing more freedoms, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I hope you can to a better place and live the life you want.

I think the most awful sin of government is restrictions in basic freedoms. A country will not thrive if the people and press are not free to speak their minds. I live in a western democracy and enjoy many freedoms. I can use the internet, virtually without restriction. I can speak freely, so long as it is not considered hate speech (most people in this country agree with this, I do not). I have freedom of movement too (this is one of the few recognised rights in our constitution, along with freedom of political speech).

I love my freedoms, but the government also overreaches in many ways. Libertarian ideals do not hold much sway here. Capitalism is in interesting model. It has made us thrive, but also lead to much corruption. I fear we have yet found a model that works. We have easy free access to medical care, but the wait times are long, the care is below a desired standard, and you can only skip the que if you are rich, even then, the private hospitals are still sometimes useless.

Countries must place more resources in to education and medical care (including mental health). A great deal of suffering would be avoided if this were the case. I am truly sorry for those who do not share in my freedoms, but do not idealise this too much. Corruption is everywhere. Money rules the world. We have lost our way, even in the west.

My studies are in economics and not in sociology or politics, so I cannot speak to you with certainty about social issues... but from my point of view and that of many people I know, it is because of these things that many people feel that the West is falling more and more, restricting freedoms and applying totalitarian measures disguising them as social struggles (as they do in communism regimes: "by the people and for the people")

Exactly this. We are choosing from a lesser of two evils and the least evil society is within a capitalist one (so far). Already read an excuse that the US is not perfect. I've heard this many, many times. Yes, true, and that imperfection means they have one of the worst healthcare, the worst education system, and a shit voting system that only benefits, again, people with money. The two political groups, Democrats and Republics, they endorse each other. They actually give each other money in order to stay in their damn seats. It's all about money in the end. Capitalism equals profit -- there's no human rights in profit, just pawns/sheep that have no control over the situation. Wage slaves. That's all. Which in turn reveals corruption if you're actually aware enough and know not to support such actions.
Placing millions of people in debt just to achieve the so-called "American Dream" which no longer exists in this generation. The older generation are so delusional that they believe working hard still gets you somewhere. Many younger people struggle because of multiple factors that won't allow them to fully succeed. It's extremely ignorant not to consider these many factors. Some may get lucky, but many, many people out there suffer from this shit, unforgiving system.

People see China as a communist country, yet they function heavily like a capitalist one. They have already steered away from the communist socioeconomic system. Over producing millions of garbage products and selling these low quality items all over the world for profit, and in turn producers are overworked in sweatshops much like the overworked population and a highly encouraged work culture in the US with low pay. Low pay because why? Focus on company profit. Stealing your hard earned wages so the people up top can gain millions and even billions. But these workers will try not to bat an eye because they're afraid to lose their jobs that supports them or possibly their family. So they keep on grinding their life away.

You may move to the US and gain certain freedoms. You may move here and find that the pay is actually a bit better than what you were getting in your country. Eventually you'll find that the threshold for suffering has just increased. You'll begin to notice how shit the US really is. It's not about being grateful for what you have, it's about individual respect as a human being and enforcing human rights. Being treated like you fucking matter and that you contribute something meaningful to society.
Did you know the most meaningful job gets paid less while the most meaningless, unnecessary, and pointless jobs gets paid the most in comparison? You produce and build products? Here's the minimum wage, which is not even enough to pay for a one bedroom apartment -- oh, you sit in an office creating Excel sheets and Power point reports? Six figure salary. On top of that with additional downtime where they can fool around on their computer and phone. While the former is forced to work non-stop with overtime, 6 days a week. That's one day off for yourself that you probably won't even get to use to relax.
You want to own a home when you've already been paying for rent for many years proving that you can handle the mortgage? Denied. You'll be living with a roommate and renting most likely for the rest of your life.

On top of it all, the country has revealed that the majority living in here supports someone as despicable as 'the orange man.' Bringing back and encouraging further racism, sexism, and misogyny that people of color and many women have been fighting against for decades. Yes, all these exists almost everywhere if not all. It still exists and the country is going backwards. So be careful which State you go to.

The point of all of this is to not show how possibly better socialism or communism is. It's about how bad the US is because people think it's the greatest fucking country in the world. Its own citizens are now aware of how bad it is here that's why there's constant backlash from the younger generation. They're no longer ignorant of the control and manipulation companies impose on its workers. The only thing that needs to happen now is a revolution for some real change, but the overall population are still too broken and brainwashed.

If some of you do move here, good luck. Just don't lower your worth as a human being.

Living in a capitalist society is also hell.

These are socioeconomic ideologies. They CAN work, but the fucking people who runs it, the people with money, are the ones that fucks everything up. "Socialism and communism is evil"

No. It's the people in power that are fucking evil. It sucks to live there because powerful capitalist countries are making your lives feel like hell.
Sorry but you're straight out wrong. Communism demolishes the class system by replacing the wealthy with the commissars and the politburo. It creates a new upper class, it is total nepotism. Capitalism is nowhere near as bad as whatever Marxist brainwashing you have been exposed to through the college system in America or through social media. Communism has killed more people than you would imagine possible. The news media in America is largely socialist-leaning, it is absolutely crooked. Socialist policies only work in social democracies that feature a hegemonic population and have a large natural resource supply. Socialism under certain conditions works but it's mostly an affront to human nature, spirituality and economic freedom. I wish I could spread this idea all over the internet but please, stop blaming capitalism for your problems people. It's not perfect but is the best system we have ever had as a species.
The US is regressing at astounding rate. It's not some bastion of goodness. And I'm not sorry but anyone who worships capitalism is fucking stupid

Let's not get caught up by ideologies. So-called "democracy", "socialism" & "communism" are different ways to run the open air prisons that we call nation-states

I use scare quotes, because those are propaganda terms. Democracy isn't pulling a lever to choose your king every few years, then you go home (if you have one) & wageslave your life away. And communism isn't a country run as a big tyrannical corporation; but rather a classless, stateless society

The freedoms are different. In an open air prison like the US, you do have unusual freedoms of speech (except during work, which maybe eats half your waking hours). In another, you might get healthcare & a minimum standard of living with apartment & food

The Soviet Union seems easiest to understand as a big corporation. It was ruled by a professional-managerial-bureaucratic class. That class exists in other countries, subordinate to the owners on top, about 20% of the population. We can see how censorious these social managers are; enemies of free speech. They're typically patronizing & treat others like morons. Most people never meet the capitalists who own their corporation, but they certainly know their boss or doctor, and often have a visceral hatred of them

How to these open air prisons interact? Like mafias. There's often a big mafia; and some smaller rival ones; and a bunch of subordinate ones in their orbits
