I know the PPH and other recommendations say that the optimal position is to be reclined comfortably in an armchair, supported by pillows if necessary. But I was curious if using a SAR (Supplied Air Respirator) mask with the hose to the side or a SCBA like mask if laying down fully on a bed face up is fine?

I think position shouldn't matter but you can test it.
I wouldn't think so either lol but I'm a rule follower so when there is a recommendation from the masters to do it a certain way, I don't really want to steer away from that but it also makes the set up more difficult lol

I think the PPH says to sit in a reclined position because they are describing Exit Bag use. Sitting up lets the heavier CO2 flows down and out around the neck.

With a SCBA mask it seems like it shouldn't matter since it has a exhalation valve.

Position matters a lot with an exit bag, someone here who attempted in the last few months is living proof of that, but with a mask, I don't think the same rule applies.

Make sure there's no way you can roll out of bed onto the floor after you've passed out!

The main concern is how your body reacts when you pass out. If you fall, your head drops/shifts, or anything like that could loosen the mask or the hoses to the tank. I it's recommended to use straps to hold yourself still.
