Hi all,

So there is more and more in the news about SS and how the po-po determine that people use info provided on here to ctb.

I've always used a VPN when accessing SS, running everything through either Switzerland (as they don't give a fook about other countries request for info) or Turkey (as they don't have any cyber laws meaning that they don't respond to requests either).

But when I ctb, and if the police do get into my PC/phone/ISP records, is there a way of fully wiping any traces of SS?

I used a disposable email that isn't registered to anything else, a username i haven't used anywhere else, has anyone got any more tips to ensure the community doesn't take any more hits?

This isn't true. When things are "deleted" or even reset they still retain the information. The memory is marked as free space so it can be overwritten, until it's overwritten it can still be recovered.

So you either reset the device and overwrite every square inch of storage. Or you destroy the device entirely.

I'm careful about what I post here. I don't use specific information. I don't use a VPN or other information. To be honest I don't think there are really any police on here looking for people trying to CTB. If anything, they might be trying to identify sellers of N or something like that. But I don't think stopping a rando person from CTB is the top of their priority list.

I can't comment on phones, but I personally will be using a software called DBAN for wiping all of my hard drives completely, prior to leaving, for multiple reasons. This would address at least one of the storage issues you mentioned. Destruction of the drive via a magnet would also be possible, in theory, but you would need a magnet of such a strength that it would be very difficult to find something adequate (store-bought magnets are generally not sufficient, to my knowledge).

My concern is more that following ctb, my ending is linked to info gathered on SS. In the news there's loads of instances where this forum get's a battering and people campaigning to take it down, rather than the other way around as you say.

Wiping drives isn't the most secure thing in the world, i have done fragging from drives that have been professionally 'wiped' and you can still get loads of stuff back. As @Brick In The Wall has said, unless you then re-write over all the space, it's not the best thing in the world.

I have got my drives bit-lockered up with a 50 character key, so hopefully that'll stop them getting in

[...] unless you then re-write over all the space [...]
That's the purpose of this software, though, from what I can find out.
Quoting its Wikipedia article:
[...] which is achieved by overwriting the data with pseudorandom numbers generated by Mersenne Twister or ISAAC. The Gutmann method, Quick Erase, DoD Short (3 passes), and DOD 5220.22-M (7 passes) are also included as options to handle data remanence.
