Please please be selfish in life, life and people are all out for themselves.

Learn to say NO.

If people harrass or guilt you into doing things tell they i said no and i dont wana hear it.

Poeople wil use all sorts of Psycholgical and Emotional tricks to get you into doing what they want.

They will make it seem like by you doing this thing for them will benefit YOU.

Its all a ploy and play on your psyche to get what they want.

PEOPLE ONLY CARE ABOUT WHAT BENEFITS THEM, THEY WONT CONSIDER WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU/ WHAT IT WOULD COST YOU.

Our world is a greedy, selfish world.

Theres no such thing as altruism , even those who do good or charity do it for an ego boost or just to feel good / inflate their hero complex.

Dont give in, be tough and say NO.

They will call you selfish , say yes i am selfish.

The only reason they say it is because they didnt get what they want.

Think of how many times people asked for help and you did alot for them.

Then think of how quickly people say no to you.

NEVER SET YOURSELF ON FIRE TO KEEP OTHERS WARM.

if i can leave this world with two advice that can change people for the better is :

1. always consider the other person when persuading them to do something instead of only worrying how it benefits you.

2. be selfish, never let anyone take whats yours and this includes time, money , property and your mind.

Honestly a lot of this is not terrible advice for a lot of the people on here, but it's worth noting, not everyone is always selfish all the time, being too suspicious of others has a price too. One needs to find a healthy balance between neither giving away too much of themselves nor being too wary of others, whatever that balance is for their specific circumstance.

The hard part is knowing what that balance even is. I've helped people who I thought of as friends and was taken advantage of, but I've also met people who aren't selfish at all and they have helped me out too. Some days I want to follow the OP's advice and be as selfish as possible, but I don't want to be like the former friends who used me. At least I've learned how important it is to say no. I wish I would have started it sooner.

I disagree with the core argument. Being able to say no is important, but not everyone is out to get you, learning to judge social situations appropriately is an important skill. Paranoia will leave you alone and miserable. I lived that way through much of my 20s and it led to a lot of self destructive behavior.

Trusting others, accepting help, and helping others has been really fulfilling and lifesaving for me.
