I've heard many times that if you jump off a high place into a body of water (which is relatively deep) your bones will shatter on impact and you'll die in agony.

Is this actually true, or is this just another fearmongering thing that people made up? Does it depend on how close the body of water is to you or something else, or is this just bound to happen? How long does it take for you to drown?
I'm considering ctb by jumping from a local bridge into the water, the hospital is also close the to site so I want to make sure I can ctb in time.

This is also my first thread on this website so please tell me if I did anything wrong.

You can absolutely do serious damage if you jump from high enough. I'm not aware of what the actual measurements are for this sort of thing, but landing in water wrong can absolutely damage organs or break bones. It's the velocity that's the issue, how much speed you pick up on the way down, and It's why diving (the sport) is full of such stressed out looking people, lol. If they hit the water incorrectly, they can seriously hurt themselves.

Those who jump off of the golden gate bridge typically die from the impact. If you survive the impact, you're gonna die drowning unless someone can get to you quickly.

Another example that comes to mind is a girl who was pushed off a tall bridge into water by friends a couple years back. The video went viral. She broke a few bones from the fall and was hospitalized for a while.

I'd say it's likely to be a painful way to CTB and possibly ineffective if the bridge isn't high enough.

Oh that's kind of a shame, I always wanted to ctb in a body of water.
I will keep that in mind. Thanks.

I've ponder this too. I believe terminal height is 250 feet & the bridge I'd use is 100 foot. I'm thinking if I went in head first I'd either be killed instantly or knocked out or break my neck. Risky for me though, since I might overcompensate & land safely.

I think there was a video about this guy that jumped from the Golden Gate bridge and survived (obviously) and was telling how the experience was. He still advocated for suicide though or at least that I remember
