Okay hear me out. What are the chances of it being successful if you were to cut the external jugular vein (not internal)? It's pretty much close to the skin... I used to self harm so I don't have an issue with the actual cutting part. I just don't know if this would even work..

Dying from a lacerated vein alone is very unlikely.

I've been looking at a few searches and it appears that if you could severely cut or even sever the jugular vein you would bleed out very quickly, but it's not that easy to do, especially to yourself. This is a very uncommon method because of the difficulty of making a severe enough cut on yourself in this area. Overall cutting has a success rate of less than 2%, so you have to really know what you're doing or get really luck for this to work.

I'm pretty sure you mean the carotid artery. Veins bleed out slower and clot more easily than arteries.

Both are very close to the heart and there are numerous articles I am finding about people dying from cuts to the jugular vein. Veins that are farther from the heart won't bleed out quickly but the jugular does. In fact, I just read an article in a medical journal about a person who ctbd by cutting their jugular vein. However, this case was unusual, because he had worked for years in a slaughterhouse where he cut the throats of many animals, so he had an idea of what type of knife to use, how deep to cut, and how much force to use.
