Jordan has decided, instead of helping suicidal people, if they wish, to get better, to punish them with 6 months in prison and heavy fines! I'm afraid that this kind of repressive law will spread around the world! Jordan decided this, following public suicide threats from demonstrators. South Korea had already decided to heavily punish anyone who does not prevent someone from committing suicide, or who does not report it to the authorities! This society is cowardly, rather than assuming that society is going badly, that people are not doing well in their lives (no one asked to be born after all) and remedying this, it prefers to repress, punish, make fear, threaten! She just forgets that a successful CTB will never be punished!

That's a step too far in anyone's book. I can understand sectioning as such, but prison and fines.. Shame on these idiots.

When a country has no other problems anymore they create more for people who have already more than enough problems.

I know right, they'd rather police people rather than actually help them and again, it's within that person's freedom of choice to ctb or not.

Because the medical debt after the "rescue" and the confinement in a psychiatric ward is not enough, we need to send them to a place that will harm them more psychologically and generate fear, so we surely compensate for the inefficiency of our mental health specialists.

We can't solve a problem if we don't recognize it as a problem, which is why the mental health field is the way it is. It's fucked up that the only way they can think of to deal with the situation is through fear.

What if a person commits suicide because they have a genuine, and serious mental condition/disease - imprison them? Seriously? Following this ridiculous idea the government of Jordan should also issue restraining orders to those who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer. This is not to say that everybody who wants to end their life is mentally ill either - because I do not believe that - it is just an example.

...If any society, nation or country has many of its members wishing for their own death then perhaps suicide is not actually the real problem. But no: it is easier to push the issues away instead of taking a look in the mirror, and realizing what an awful culture (or system) that you have, and blame those who are suffering for being too "weak" for being unable to adapt to a broken system.

Practically all middle eastern states are run by clowns unfortunately. Sucks since visiting would be nice otherwise.

I don't know about that, I have been to Jordan. I have been to the Dead Sea and to Petra. I have always found the desert to be cleansing. There is something about the vast emptiness found in the desert that has always resonated with me. Could it be echoes of my depression? Possibly.
