I'm counting the days until Fall arrives.

I hate Summer, I dread it all year long. I'm physically miserable for months of the year because of the heat. I don't handle it well, physically, no thanks to being on meds that fuck with my heat tolerance. Some years, I have to go to the hospital for heat exhaustion. I live in the PNW which is about the best I can hope for in Canada, we have mild Summers compared to other places I've lived [I'm looking at you, Southern Ontario].

I wish it never got above 16C/60F. About 20C/70F is like... my limit of where I can function and enjoy the weather. 25C/80F and I'll feel awful if I have to leave the house and once I get home, it can take hours for me to recover and cool off. 30C/85F and above is actual Hell. Ice pack on my neck, laying naked in bed all day and unable to sleep, unable to eat. Just overheating and misery and willing the months to pass by. Even better, now I'm premenopausal and get hot flashes!

Climate change is making this all worse, of course. The heat wave of '21 is actually what first prompted me to join SaSu. I was so close to killing myself just to avoid another Summer, to never feel that heat again. Another heat wave like that will break me.

I feel exactly the same as you, 1000%.
I've recently moved to a country where it stays 25c+ for weeks and weeks at a time, barely dropping below 20c at night. We just endured a heatwave with several days above 35c and it's unlikely to be the only one. I have to be busy all day too, when I just want to lie down and sleep away the heat. Then of course I can't sleep at night.

Then there's the biting and stinging insects.
Then there's the exposure to the harsh light, never being in comforting dusk or fog.

Then there's the bitter, existential nostalgia for my childhood in my home country before climate change, when 18c was a nice summer's day and 25c+ was a freaky heatwave. When often it rained for many days in the summer. I remember the quality of light, the way it felt. I mourn it and dread the future.

I really think I might have to leave the life I chose here in this country, and the summers are a not insignificant part of the reason. At least in my home country we are likely to get wet, cool summers still. Summer 2023 for example it rained most of the summer.

I fantasise about getting to ctb in the dead of winter, in the deep frost and snow, with the bare trees and the bare lines of the landscape and the iron-clad sky, and nothing green and growing, and night falling around me as I fade away. It is a helpful escape.

I can't imagine also having a medical intolerance to heat. I'm so sorry. Take care of yourself. At least now we have passed the solstice and we know we are on the road to the dark and cold parts of the year πŸ–€

The summer is really unpleasant for me, too. I'm trying to stop myself from going into my bougie complaints about my stepdad's A/C rules in the house, and will just say my options are hot & stuffy inside or blazing hot n humid outside. I live in the mid Atlantic area, obv not a tropical area or rainforest, but my body doesn't regulate temperature well.

Having to go to the hospital for heat exhaustion sounds awful. So sorry it can get to that point for you.

I also don't really like the heat at this time of year because it gets too hot and I find it difficult to sleep at night at times.

Yeah I hate the heat too
I know when they say in the weather that it will be "good weather" that it will be bad weather πŸ˜πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…πŸ€£

Summer is "officially" over.

The last weekish of August was Hell, temps about 35C/95F for several days and it never went below 25C/80F overnight. The thing that kept me going is knowing it just won't get that hot again this year--it was a freak event to have that as late as it was, even. I counted the days, hours until the heat would break.

My next taste of Hell will be October--the month where my mother and best friend have both birth and death dates. The stress usually gives me temporal lobe seizures, as many as a dozen during the month. But I've been on a seizure med since December and haven't had one of those seizures since. I'm hoping it keeps me safe from them during October, they're Hell--30-90 seconds of pure dread and terror, unable to speak or move properly. I scream into my pillow if I'm in my room at the time.

The good thing about the hospital is their air conditioning! So even when waiting in triage, it was helping with my heat sickness.

Thank you.

No rain here yet, but it should come soon. I love the rain and we get a lot of it from Fall through Spring.
