Hello my dear SS fellows,

Some of you have probably read my previous threads related to this topic ( PART I and PART II) so, time for an update!

SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND ALCOHOL

Well, I always post these threads on the suicide discussion section because I've realized alcohol is really related to my suicidal thoughts.

In part I, I had said that I was gonna quit alcohol and start over but I was so depressed that I ended up drinking again like 2 days after that post and guess what? The hangovers were so depressing that I became more suicidal. I even wanted to CTB on Jan, 21st!!!

THERE'S ALWAYS A SECOND SHOT:

In PART II, I commented that I had failed quitting alcohol and was gonna give quitting alcohol a second shot.
Fortunately, IT WORKED!!!!!!
The first days I was desperate! I wanted to go to the supermarket and buy some booze asap. I felt so sad!
However, after thinking and thinking, I've realized that the only one who can help me is myself. I was inspired, I felt more secure. Maybe it's my grandpa sending me some spiritual energy? lol I don't think so but that would be nice.

BEEN SOBER FOR 21 DAYS

Having said all that, I can now tell you that I've been sober for 21 days! This is amazing for me. I used to drink almost everyday!
It seems my body (and pocket lol, i spent lots on alcohol) is really happy about it because I have more energy, lost about 9 pounds, I'm working and studying lots, plan to date some girls, etc.

My point is: You can get over XX if you really try to but I know, I sound like some cheap speech from a motivational youtube video but trust me, if you realize the only one who can help you is yourself, things might go better.

At least that worked for me. I feel like living and I will probably drink alcohol again but I'll only do it on special occasions. I don't feel addicted to it anymore!

Anyway, thanks for reading my story. I'll post a new part next month! Hope it's positive too lol. =)

Hi

I struggle with the booze.
I got a bit drunk a few days ago courtesy of a visiting friend.

The thing I wanted to say is about the 'delerium tremens'

My experience ( drinking for thirty years ) was that it took me YEARS of non-habitual
drinking ( I'm not teetotal , but only drink rarely) for my THINKING to clear .

You sound like you are on top of things and I am happy for you !

All I'm saying is that in the first few years of not drinking I was flooded with things from the past that were not resolved.

This is my ongoing theory of stopping habitual drinking.

All the things from the past came crashing in ... my "unmedicated" anxiety went through the roof ! I went on a road trip to find a differnet place tp 'settle down' and was so isolated ( a life time state ... also 'medicated' by booze) and trying to process UNSOLVABLE issues , that really needed to be addressed by some form of spiritual practice .

Anyway ... I'm just saying congratulations and well done ... but for other folks , stopping the booze can be a bit tricky because of the re-emergeance of things that the booze was keeping repressed .

Thank you so much for your reply! What you said is very intersting and I'm reading the wikipedia link. I didn't know about it!

Yeah, I think I was never an "addict", I mean, I drank almost every day but I think I was able to quit it because I felt none of the things on the link and what you commented.

It seems I "got out from the alcoholism zone in time".

Anyway, I hope I can continue my non-drinking streak for some more time and then only drink on special occasions.

Thanks again for your words and send you lots of hugs and love.

Matt

it sounds like you did !
That's Good Timing !!!

Like I said ... my comment was maybe for more 'long term users' who might read this thread , and a small chance a little bit of it was for you .

The brain gets used to stuff quickly and changing brings on some weirdness.

Grats on 3 weeks; I'm just finishing Day 2. Feeling mostly fine with it cos my last bender was horrific and I've made so many idiotic moves these last few months off the wagon.

Thank you!
Well, what you're doing is very important! You gotta think how "stupid, ridiculous and pointless" was to be drunk those days. That helped me lots!

Congrats! It's seems you're doing huge steps towards your recovery.

I'm in the same path but sometimes it's 2 steps forward 1 step backwards, or 1 forward 2 backwards

I went from years and years of downing liters of vodka per day and basically drinking myself into oblivion, quitting was one of the hardest things Ive ever done. If any of you need someone to talk to about quitting or staying away, feel free to hit me up.

I'm glad you are doing better, it is not easy to quit an addiction.
I tell myself to quit smoking or reduce the dose but I come up with "why quit?" maybe if something changed, but if that something is me? A lot of willpower to quit, that's why I admire those who overcome addictions.

Muchas gracias por tus palabras amigo!
To tell you the truth, the first days were the hardest and I had tried it before but failed. I was just like... "Okay, this has been enough! Less money, more pounds, health getting worse...TIME TO QUIT. " and I did it!
Anyway, there are days in which I feel tempted to drink. For example today, I was about to buy some beers at the mall haha.

Anyway, you know you can count on me whenever you need to talk!

@sadworld

Haha thanks 4 reading, dear.
I hope part IV doesn't have any weird plot-twist which makes things worse! I want a happy ending! LOL
