I've been depressed all my life so its hard for me to understand how everybody is not depressed . The economy sucks. Theres so much suffering more than pleasure. Everything is a chore. How is any of this worth it?

A lot of people that think it's worth it are masters at deluding themselves.

Your are right. But a lot of people are living in an illusion. They are lucky enough to have friends and family to distract them from the hell we actually live in

I wonder what thats like?
I mean, I do think people for the most part are very delusional

But if someone has a healthy brain, they almost never notice that the reality is totally broken

Some people live good lives and are able to stay busy enough to not let all of this current socioeconomic madness get to them. They are well off enough to weather the storm or had the foresight and/or resources to prepare in advanced. We were not lucky enough to be part of the population. And it sucks.

Even if the world was a utopia it would still have negativity imo. People making the wrong choices and whatnot. But I guess it would be lessened. Idk I see the world as a gross chaotic lottery no matter what, that's just embedded in the nature of the universe, not saying we shouldn't aim for a better world though

I've always been depressed too. I think there's something to depressive realism. I think a depressive can judge the external world more accurately even though internal judgement might be skewed negatively. There's a number of layers of illusion that keeps a persons positivity bias intact like working psychological defence mechanisms, lack of chemical imbalance and even a downright blessed life.

I legitimately think happy people are dumb.

Same thoughts.
And yet, even if people complain about this stuff... They're "mentally fine".
No depression, or else.
It seems like they can feel Better/Good by enjoying little things.
I might envy them.

One in four in the UK on antidepressants.

The others are probably taking illegal drugs occasionally.
I don't know how people cope it's just unbearable life now.
Everything in life is a cope. "A good life" is an invention of media/advertisement to sell you stuff.

Whenever I go to places I see everyone mindlessly staring into their phones, playing games, gambling, social media posts. Over-eating, alcohol, porn and sex. Cigarettes, weed, illicit drugs. Religion or spirituality. Reading news and blaming others for the pain (mostly people who are in a disadvantaged position).

most people are doing fine, because they see the cope as "happiness".
And I am kinda jealous of them. Because I cope and I am just miserable.

I made this note to self the other day as it crossed my mind, and I think it fits in with this discussion. "It's not us going mad, it's us realising how mad the world is. Or do I just keep telling myself that, to not lose it?"
