It really is tricky. But just a food for thought.
I have read few after life theories.
When you die, your soul will move out of you. As it's attached to your body and this identity for so many years, it'll also be attached to the people you loved and cared for. It'll go and meet them. It'll be aware of everything. And once it crosses over to the other side, it'll take a new birth. In that new birth, if you do past life regression, you may be able to recover what all happened.

Why I kinda believe in this. Almost a decade ago, I was studying and I was focused on the subject. Suddenly, i felt a presence on my left side and I knew who that presence was. That presence faded in a fraction of seconds.
I discussed with the daughter of this deceased relative, she also said, she felt presence like that.

I have never had any paranormal experiences except this one. And i do not have any schizophrenia that would make me hallucinate.

You are right, that'll be so painful to know.
I simulated my death in my head to be able to plan it, I felt their pain in advance what they are going to feel after my departure.

I guess it would be like walking out of a movie theater because you didn't like the movie, but still curious enough to look up a plot synopsis afterwards
