...is something you're supposed to just accept as true and yet nobody wants to accepts that "it gets worse" might also be true. any time it's "gotten better" for me it has inevitably gotten worse again too. "it" is only ever "better" for a short time and then something inevitably happens that sends me falling back down into depression, loneliness and so on, and that kind of "better" can't sustain me anymore. i'm sick and tired of chasing after some magical future happiness like a dog chasing a mechanical rabbit.

I consider the "it gets better" statement to be so bullshit whereas acknowledging that it could get worse is so much more rational and reasonable to me. Chances are, the longer I stay alive for, the worse that I'd get since there are so many risks for me being subjected to extreme suffering in the future. The suffering could even be so bad to where I no longer have the mobility required to kill myself. Plus, if I were to stay alive, I'd eventually have to be dealing with old age which in itself is a worse thing to worry about. Looking at this world and thinking that it could get better just seems so irrational to me

Whenever I said "or it gets worse" I usually get a "you never know, why not try anyway" type of response

It really is such a cruel existence where there is all this suffering, I'd personally never wish for any of this, the fact that there is no limit as to how much one can suffer in this existence is certainly a reason as to why I'd always prefer to not exist and I always have so much dread for what lies ahead, I really understand feeling so tired of it all.

"It gets better" is the lie used by society to oppress those of us who truly need a helping hand. The truth is that things can get better or things can get worse and we need to acknowledge it and have the right to talk about it. That's where forums like this comes in handy.

I don't like when people say "it gets better" like it's a fact, and refuse to hear anything else out. It's true, it CAN get better, but that doesn't mean it WILL get better, it's not certain. Life just doesn't work like that. It could get way better, it could get way worse, or anywhere in between. I wish people could accept that. Life doesn't just go up for everyone all the time

Totally understand your perspective. I guess the old phrase that "life is a roller coaster" has some truth to it and perhaps there are those of us who's roller coaster has long lengths down low with to few cilmbs to the high points.

To me, the platitude "it gets better" is like saying "it will rain tomorrow". It may or may not, its certainly not a guarrantee, and you have not given any evidence to back up the claim.

I find this to be the laziest way to try and console someone.
They just come across as someone who doesn't know how to help and doesn't want to bother to find a solution for your problems.
If these people actually cared enough to help you out, It could actually get better. But no, you just have to deal with it until "it gets better".

I see lots of very young people asking this question about whether 'it gets better' is a lie or not. Imagine your hair falls out forever like mine did when I was in my thirties, then ask yourself if it gets better. And far worse things happen to people than their hair falling out as they get older.

It doesn't get better. It gets worse. Maybe you learn to cope with it faster than it gets worse. Or you don't.

It doesn't necessarily get worse, either. Nobody knows for sure if their life will necessarily get better or worse or just stay the way it's always been. Life is a series of varying degrees of ups and downs. The issue with the phrase isn't that life actually gets worse. It's that you can't actually promise that things will get better and stay that way because nobody knows what might happen in the future. Our futures are uncertain.

I think life can get better for some people but for others the trauma and pain is just too much to come back from. Life can and will get worse and the world we're living in now things are gonna get worse for the majority of people.
