I live in Ireland and I want to become friends with another person in this country, but it feels hopeless as I cannot relate to the ones I've encountered. I don't want to sound dismissive, but their problems are really quite trivial in the scheme of things, as to where I can't help but resent them. They still have so many options, yet they're so mired in their self-pity that they refuse to see it.

I want a friend in this country who is in a genuinely unsalvageable situation. That's someone I can relate to and understand. But to be honest, there are barely any people who live in Ireland here to begin with.
