It has been for me. But when I was under anesthesia recently, it wasn't dark or light but nothing. Because it was nothing, my mind filled in the gap with the first thing I awoke to. That unconsciousness could've lasted forever and it wouldn't have mattered. I didn't care.

We eventually face the end, in some way. When we die our body will.return to nature. I think we attempt to apply our conscious mind into the state of ' not being ' in realty, we become NOTHINGNESS. No darkness, nor LIGHT. Just NOTHINGNESS. Humankind can fear death, that which is beyond si. But we all face our last day, sooner or later. We cannot live forevermore.

Yes, I think you're right with your experience under anesthesia - death isn't darkness, it's nothingness. The closest we get to death is being in a very deep sleep and having no awareness of anything.

I feel like many people fear death as this existence is all they know, but death is all that I look forward to personally. I only fear the method failing and life itself. When I lose consciousness, it will be the end of me. All of my problems will die when I do. Death makes life seem so temporary and meaningless, and it is inevitable for us all, our only true purpose as humans is to die.

It makes me angry that we've been force fed images of ghouls, demons, and the creature with a scythe.

I wonder if anesthesia will be banned because it may push troubled people to die since it reveals death isn't scary lol

There is no need to fear the impending inevitability , Death

What is the most absolute truth of all ? That every human will die. in 120 years every human alive now will be dead . all 7 billion humans alive now will be dead in 120 years. People think that's long time. most older people will tell you the last few decades passed by in a blink of an eye. to younger people : the last 5 years passed by really fast didn't they. Even 500 years is nothing in the Universe's time scale . we are but a blip, a tiny blink and then gone forever, darkness forever non-existence. Trully we are imo just like a fly that lives a week , the fly we share 42% of the exact same genes with. that we think we are so different is just what we are taught imo that we are so special ,

One million people kill themselves every year world wide . 20x more than that attempt and fail.

I hate being insignificant. It means all my suffering (childhood abuse, etc) was just cruel fate.

So true. When you're little, grown ups tell you you're special, you deserve things blabla. I truly believe that that's what keeps people alive. I realise that there's nothing I deserve, we're all exactly the same, there's no good or bad, it's all just made up to give you a purpose. Once you're disillusioned, I call that depression. Rant over.

Yes, well said. Life is short anyhow. Only humans think about this. Humans can become attached to people and possessions. And dying means letting go of these attachments. But in the end, we lose everything and everyone. Life is impermanence.

if it helps further, we as human's know in our head that we will die one day. People like me know that i will die soon either because of assisted dying, ctb or the disease will kill me. Either way, i will die but then everyone else dies too but they may not know when. We push the idea of death to our inner mind and most people dont talk about it. So when we are near death it can cause terror and anxiety. We are in denial until it arrives. I don t fear death but i fear the pain in my illness, loss of control and dignity. Drs cannot euthanize me because they are paid to save lives. My Mother died in agony, because of this ethos in medical minds. Today is our only guarantee Thats everyone. Tonight, people who thought they had a tomorrow will have died by many means. Live literally is NOW.

I get this, what is life when all it hands us is cruelty and pain.

Ive woken up after being out of it for many hours, falling into a drunken sleep, fading into whatever it was, then waking up not knowing anything between the then and that moment, I often think of what if I hadnt woken, that blissfull unawareness of existence, life carrying on like you don't exist, like you never existed
At this point what is the point of life? Why are people so afraid of missing out on something that is only a short moment in the grand realty of time

I think its our identity. We know nothing else, so without it, we cant comprehend. We cling to life thinking it wont end but it will. This is why so many people regret at life's end. They didn't get around to doing everything they thought they wanted to do, even though they wouldn't have done if they had lived forever. How many Years do people need before they are comfortably okay with death.?

I still believe with my whole heart that life after death is something that the human mind cannot comprehend. And that fascinates me.

The whole being without a body is kinda creepy though. Like that movie enter the void.

No, death is not darkness--Its not anything--Like some say here, its like being under anesthesia(like I was for 3 hours getting my gallbladder out), there is just nothing, unlike sleep, there is no sense of time passing---If somehow our dead bodies were brought back to life a month later, it would be like no time had passed at all

Exactly the opposite, I would be heavily discouraged to die if there is an after-life, and the idea of nothingness calms me.

It's an incentive.

Dear Darkness, dear Darkness
Won't you cover, cover me again?
Dear Darkness, dear...
I've been your friend for many years

Won't you do this for me, dearest Darkness?
And cover me from the sun
And the sound of the words tightening
Around my throat and the throat of the one I love
The tightening, tightening, tightening...

It encourages me. I embrace the idea that there is nothing after death, because it means that nothing can go wrong after dying too. I don't care whats after death as long as I manage to experience it
