Apart from the commandment not to kill, there's nothing in the bible that forbids suicide. If "God is love" (1 John 4 v 8), then he'll want your suffering to stop, if it's unbearable.

Disclaimer, this is my personal opinion and not based in any scripture

There is a huge contradiction in religious thought - what about martyrs? The religious have been debating that forever. That is suicide but it is for a cause supporting religion. I doubt all suicide is taboo as long as it continues the religious charade. Commit suicide as a way of spreading the gospel of Jesus and you should be good in God's book.

I do not believe in religion in any way, so I see that there is nothing immoral about suicide. I did not ask to exist so I have no obligation to stay alive. I have heard stories of religious people who have been faced with extreme suffering and it made them suicidal. Despite what religion may say about suicide, in the end there is only so much we can cope with as humans.

How am I oppressed by Christians irl? Ever heard of institutional homophobia & hate crimes against gay people?

Is that an order? :)) Wanna perform an exorcism on me? :haha:
People who are really Christians do not support hate or discrimination towards gay people. People who do that in name of Christianity are not doing what their religion teaches.
Disclaimer: This is my view and nothing more.

Sin is anything that seperates one from the Kingdom of Heaven (reality). Being a follower of the Heaven's Gate teachings, I believe that our overcoming of human ways and behaviors is not a moral issue, but a behavioral one. Those who are ready to make that step, will desire to leave behind all vestiges of the human kingdom because they recognize that they are simply not compatible with the evolutionary level above. This transition therefore requires the individual to first have an awakening, followed by exercising their free will. What humans do is a combination of the programming they've received during the course of their lives, their genetic package and the influence of discarnates / people who have passed away but still cling to this world in the spirit world. The idea is that souls are given the opportunity to reincarnate until those in the Next Level determine (by their standards) that a soul has consistently made poor choices, and so is fit only to be recycled/ destroyed. There is much more to this, and I don't have all the answers but it's food for thought.
I think for me its time to evacuate

I'm not religious, but there's really no definitive answer. I think that having faith is a wonderful thing, but those who have that faith shouldn't bind themselves to one particular set of beliefs in my opinion. Are we to believe that out of all the religions in the world, the one we choose is the only right one? I just don't look at these things as black and white. You will have some on the aisle who will say it is a sin and you're going to hell, and some (probably minority) who will say that God is loving and forgiving and will understand. I don't know the right answer, it's really just up to the individual.

I love my aunt to death, but when I was in one of the darkest times I have ever been in and extremely suicidal, she had me watch some preacher talk about how I am going to hell and how the majority of the population is going to hell, even those who believe. Years later she came out as lesbian, which I have no issue with other than the hypocrisy of telling me I was going to hell if I CTB. Unfortunately I feel there's a lot of that in religion, which is why I think you should live your life the way you feel is right even if you're someone of faith. Sorry if I got too off topic here.

Nope.

Those who have had profound spiritual experiences have stated that suicide is not a sin.

Those who have had spiritual experiences have stated that what we think of as God has love and understanding for all that he has created.

According to them, it is not God's grandest wish that people commit suicide but that love, compassion and understanding is offered to those not only suffering from physical illness but also severe depression and other forms of mental illness.

There are those who say that Jesus Christ's death could be construed as a suicide. That he sought attention and offered himself up as a martyr.

If there is a Heaven and you get there by committing suicide will you have to answer for ending your own life? Possibly. Unforgivable sin? Banished to hell? No.

(Many say that he'll does not exist, it is of our own making, you only go to hell if you feel you belong there and that everyone gets a shot at redemption.)

From what I can gather the universal powers that be would prefer that we do the best we can to regain our health and overcome our suicidal thoughts and feelings but if a person is simply just too sick with depression and other psychological ailments that they are looked upon the same as a person who died of a terminal illness.
I agree with this. I have had a spiritual experience with Christ, and it was pure love and the purest peace and compassion. Why someone is the way they are is totally understood and they are loved so much. I wish I could feel that all the time. I have heard from people who have near death experiences that we often have to feel the pain we have caused others, and also the good. So a big reason why I don't want to CTB is because I don't want to hurt my family.

If sins really are a reality and you're going to be punished for them, I'm going to hell either way. I am bisexual and have had lesbian sex multiple times, and I'm not sorry at all for it, as well as used drugs, stolen, eaten shrimp and wore clothes made of cotton. "Sins" are bullshit lol.

God let sin enter the world by adam and eve eating the forbidden fruit. If he loves us so much why let sin enter the world so we can all fuck up, die then spend forever in hell burning. Apparently it was to let us have free will. Free will to sin and spend eternity burning. All sounds pretty fucked up.

Where is it in the Bible? What are God's thoughts?
I don't believe in all that religion stuff. The reality is. Is that you where born in this world without your consent or even the slightest clue of what you where really born into. I tried to believe in the religion thing but it doesn't make any sense to me? "God says these!" or "God says you can't do that!" If he really didn't want us to do it, then why did slavery happen? Why did 9/11 happen? I just don't get it. It's not a stupid sin it's your life. Don't worry about some BS religion tell you what to do. In my eyes it's all BS.

My personal take is that Suicide is merely fast tracking the inevitable, death.

If it is not a sin to die, it cannot be a sin to commit suicide

Even if I believe in God, I don't accept this. I'm not a sinner for not consenting to be tortured in here. I'm not a sinner for removing myself from this acid bath. I'm going away that's my choice. My soul is mine and so is my body, not God's.
That's nothing more than emotional abuse, if God loves us, why would he abuse us this way ? Are we sinners and will go to the oven for not letting us be fucked up more and more each damn day ? I don't accept this, I disagree and I will always disagree.

A couple years ago, I remember seeing on YouTube a video of a small old Christian lady in a church, talking to the camera about how god is forgiving and that there is a whole scripture about suicide as being noble in old Christian texts. Now I really wish I saved that video.
In Judaism it tends to be different, if you commit suicide, God forgives you depending on the reasons why you committed suicide

No one was given a choice whether they wanted to come into this world or not. Everybody has a right to choose when they want to go.
There are tons of good people in this world who just want a peaceful death, therefore I don't believe that suicide is a sin.

What about the people who've taken other peoples' lives? Soldiers fighting in a war? Wrongful deaths from a police shooting? One could argue that they have sinned. Are they going to be punished? I'm not religious, but no one really knows what happens to these peoples' souls. Do souls exist? Who really knows?
I'm just going off on a tangent, my apologies.

If God is all-knowing, then He knows the extent of your suffering and your reasons. If He is also all-loving, then He loves and forgives you knowing your reasons.

As long as you're not like Epstein commit suicide to escape consequences for your selfish actions, God knows, forgives, and loves you. I think it's not really His desire to see His children commit suicide but He understands it nonetheless. God will accept us into Heaven with open arms.

Someone who really knows you and cares about you will be sad you are gone but should also understand why.
Others can use the sin or coward description as they do not know you or understand the place some people find themselves. Their comments are self serving and really should be ignored.

Found you. @ExitHellishExistence would you like to explain why you stole my post and plastered it on Quora for Richard Martini to answer?

My original post for reference.

You admitted to owning this profile here.

Please explain why you did this and why you feel it appropriate to copy and paste people's posts on here without even checking in with the OP? It was genuinely hurtful to find. It was not some random post to me - I poured so much emotion, time and floods of tears into that thread.

I am not only stunned that you circulated something like that without consent, but also tried to claim my words as your own.

I appreciate that by putting our thoughts out into the world online, there is potential for them to be reposted and reused, but that does not make it right. I would have hoped that members here would have enough respect for one another to not plagiarise someone's innermost turmoil and regurgitate them on a mainstream social media platform like that.

EDIT: I am sincerely sorry for hijacking this subject. I posted here because this individual's most recent mention of Richard Martini and Quora is on this thread (here). Their profile here is private and it appears they have disabled private messages, so I see no other method of contacting them here.

For me as a militant atheist the question is, why made some religions suicide a sin? It seems to be a relict of slavery. Suicide was for slaves the only way to escape from their owners. In order to prevent this, the slave owners told them that they will get and punish them even after death.
