Luminal is Phenobarbital, not Pentobarbital (Nembutal). If you overdose on Luminal and survive, permanent damage is likely,
especially brain damage as a result of respiratory depression.
No they are 2 different drugs. Nembutal( pentobarbital) is a fast acting barbiturate.
Luminal( Phenobarbital) is a longer acting barbiturate which is usually prescribed to treat epilepsy.
People sometimes confuse the two because they are both barbiturates and their generic names sound similar.

I would like to add or clarify something here: a barbiturate overdose is likely to lead to brain damage only if you're found after you've stopped breathing and the resuscitation is successful; the time window is very narrow as there is a short time between respiratory arrest and death. If one is found while breathing, most likely they'll be placed on breathing support and no brain damage is likely to occur. With phenobarbital is essential that you won't be found for at least 72 hours, ideally, only after you stink :)
