Hello, I'm worried that police could be monitoring this site and do welfare checks if they think ctb is likely. Does this ever happen? I'm in the UK.

I'm sure police (and doctors, and psyche students, and anti-choicers, and a host of other people) do monitor this site. And even interact on it. I doubt it's the police's top priority as 99.9999% of the people here aren't out to cause harm to anyone other than themselves. And in many jurisdictions, suicide isn't even a crime anymore. Most western countries have some degree of free speech, and that's exactly what's being exercised here. As long as you're not posting about wanting to take your own life ALONG WITH 5000 others by planting bombs in some skycraper, you should be just fine. Remember talking about something is NOT the same as actually doing something.

Just use a VPN or TOR if you're worried about it. Or Tails if you're really worried.

I'm in the UK also, and to be honest I very much doubt if the Police have the resources, even if they had the interest, to investigate the identities and locations of posters on this site. They can't even handle the volume of online Frauds & child porn concerns.
The only instances in the UK I've known of involving welfare checks have just been them covering themselves in case a person does ctb when they had been informed and they had done nothing. Like when a GP, family member or Customs contact them.
