Is it actually possible to CTB from just using a garbage bag? I'm reading all kinds of fascinating stuff here, but I was curious about this. So either it's not a viable option or it's just not that popular. You are all some great people in my book. Thank you for letting me join and giving me access to this wealth of information.
- SI is strongly programmed in humans. ANYTHING that requires extended inaction while your brain knows you can die or an action you can take to save yourself your brain will mostly likely make you do. The best methods typically separate the actual action from the result or they "work" even if you have doubt after you take it, like SN
If the bag was lose that would make the person breath in CO2 and that would trigger the suffocation response so that would get unpleasant and trigger SI. Otherwise, with a tight bag, not being able to breathe at all would most likely trigger a panic reaction and that would trigger SI too.
This method at first glance seems simple but the body would put up one hell of a fight.
Plus: Even if the person manages to pass out the bag will tear really easily so they would probably wake up anyway unless they managed to tie themselves up really well.
I've tried it once, in an act of despair, before knowing this site, impusively.

"just" garbage bag - no. the chances are close to zero.
garbage bag that is large enough filled with pure inert gas tied very well and can keep the co2 level below panic levels before you pass out and make sure bag does not rip - yes if all these happen it is possible.
