Independent of others or of outside factors. Is it possible to cause trauma to yourself?

The mind is a special thing. Some people will blow up things in their mind until it is so big it can no longer be ignored. Other people minimize things that actually have significant impact on their lives. How you deal with your circumstances has a big impact on your thinking.

One can engage in behaviors on their own towards themselves that induces trauma.

I wonder if something traumatic needs to happen to begin with- that we then keep remembering and retraumatizing ourselves with.

Or, we keep subconsciously looking for ways to relive it. I've witnessed women who had violent and abusive fathers end up with violent and abusive partners.

Maybe some people are born with a propensity to develop trauma though. For example, I imagine gender dysphoria creates trauma. That's not entirely down to outside forces. That must be in part, a sense that someone doesn't feel comfortable in their own skin.
