I'm Jewish, and my personal thoughts on the after life are that I'll find out when I get there. Hell us a nice concept in that it gives us comfort that the "bad" people will finally receive the punishment we feel they deserve. But I don't believe it exists.
Also my own personal belief about G-d is that they exist, but I don't think they're paying much attention to what goes on here on earth.

There's no person/mind without the brain, which decomposes when you die. Everything about your mind can be damaged by damaging parts of the brain. You can cease to recognize faces, you can cease to know the names of vegetables, but still remember the names of tools... Damage one part of the brain and something about the mind is lost for good, damage another and yet more is lost... What do you think happens when the whole yucky thing is damaged at death? That some mysterious invisible you rises off the brain with all your faculties intact?

I agree with you. A person is basically just their brain, and once their brain is gone, theoretically they are gone too. I think that most likely there is no afterlife. I just don't think it's possible to know definitively.

Yes it is, as is heaven. They both exist within this human world of ours.

There are people living in their heaven, and others in their hell, existing in their opposite realities side by side, blissfully ignorant about what is going on with the other person. These are the two extreme ways of experiencing life. Some people are born as "angels", to spend their lives in heaven, where even their most negative experiences end up enriching their lives. Others as "devils", to spend their lives in hell, where everything is misery and hope is the worst thing that can happen. There is nothing fair about it, or nothing unfair. It's just the way it is.

And then, with time, they all wither away and die. In death they are all finally equal.

I've always thought of life as some sort of prison with everyone having different sentences and all of us looking for a way out.

I believe we make this world and our lives into either heaven or hell.

It is also a matter of perception and expectations. What was a hell for me at a time now looks like absolute heaven after in my ignorance and denial (of my own issues) I kept looking for something else. It's as if satan gave me all the opportunities then to explore these other avenues in life and I failed to appreciate any of them... having deep down the memory of my heaven, which I could not then appreciate.

I spent the last 2 years in a violent delusional state lined with suicidal depression and hell for me is reliving this life over and over again until I stop making the same mistakes. I could be free, only in this life I found a person who made it all go away and I cannot let go – she, and the promise of our life together has been everything for me.

The only two ways out of this hell would be building a life on my own where I don't need other people to validate me and give me permission to live or letting her go. The first I have not been equipped for in my childhood and learnt too late to parent myself, the second is not an option – in my wildest imagination a life with her is the heaven I had always wanted.

So yes, hell is a very real place for me. It is here, it has been my life, in all its 1000(s?) of iterations. I know I added some energy to this cycle this time around. Was it enough?

Finally, I am convinced that the reason for my cycling in this one lifetime is the suicide I commit at the end of it. I feel like I am just about past the point it usually happened in my life. I hope that I will not discover next time around that I only prolonged the misery by a few days and that I will actually wake up at that age of 25 when I had everything within reach, accepting my childhood, forgiving myself and opening up to the world and this woman who loved me and believed in me beyond measure at that time.

I really fucked up, half aware, yet responsible for it all. This is hell – feeling responsible for your own downfall. Pain, guilt, shame, humiliation and the absolutely debilitating grief.

But at the end of the day – I would go through it all again, just to have another chance at being with this person I love and hopefully making this world a better place together.

Hell is wanting something you can never have. Especially if against all odds you managed to get it and lost it. There are no dreams or hopes left after that.
