Is Discord safe enough?

I want to tell a person I love that I will ctb sometime in the future, but I don't want to cause him legal troubles after I do it. I've seen here that Discord is considered a better choice than fb chat etc etc when it comes to privacy. Will there be any trace of our chat in Discord after I delete the messages?

Discord isn't really that safe for sensitive stuff. Only for "normal" chatting/voice chatting.

For more privacy and very sensitive stuff, use Signal, where the chat's are saved on your device and are gone once you delete the app or register Signal on a new device, the chats are gone unless you restore the chats from an encrypted backup (not recommended).
Also activate a re-activation lock, where you'll be required to enter a passphrase to register your account on a new device.

The guy who sold me my Antidepressants got busted two months ago and we both used Signal and I didn't get any visit form the Police or any legal letters.
I wrote like a lot of sensitive information that would lead to my PO box, where I could be easily busted while picking up my packages but nope..
I'm still here and undercover.

Yes, that's true but the problem here is that Telegram servers can decrypt the secret messages and since the app isn't really open source, you cannot really check if even the "self destructing" messages cannot be read and temporary saved by Telegram Server.
That's why I consider using Telegram as a WhatsApp alternative but not as the "most secure" instant messaging provider.

The problem is that we are not in touch with the person this period and he's already my friend on Discord. I don't know if he would create a telegram account if I asked him to in order to share something with him. Thank you though, I guess I should use something else. I've seen that the Facebook chat has the secret conversation mode too and wonder if that would work..?

Will he get in trouble if I tell him I'll ctb sooner or later, whether that be in 1,2 or 18 months and if we proceed by expressing our feelings for each other as a "farewell" and I ctb say a year later? To my knowledge Discord does not provide end-to-end user encryption. That is to say, all of your messages pass through their servers and can be seen by those maintaining those servers. Unless your friend actively encourages you, I don't think that there will be cause to pursue them in the case of your death. Then again, I don't know the laws of your jurisdiction.

When it comes to Facebook, don't even think about using that platform since it's not really trust worthy since "Zucc must Succ" lizzard boi, did lie so badly at the supreme curt about selling user data and other stuff.

If he or you don't want to use your phone numbers (even though Signal only saves information like "account created date&time", phone number used during the account creation), you could also use Keybase, where you can share larger files like videos or perhaps encrypted information but there are two problems..

The messages are synced between the devices unless they're set to self destruct (I just tested that on a account from a friend of mine)


and you can recover an account if it's installed on other device or stored the recovery phrase somewhere unsafe
(this won't work if you formatted/factory reset your phone or just deleted your user account)


However, I don't know how safe this IM provider is.
I know a couple of black market dealers from a referral Keybase group since 2018 but yeah.. I'm more familiar with Signal..

Depending on the country.. In my country, I would definitely get in trouble for that but like my friend joked before he died in an accident with his "non-street-legal" Subaru, it's not illegal if you don't get caught..
Signal would definitely be my main app to go for this whole "thing". You would only have to delete the app before "doing it".

I think it'd be better to get his e-mail and send an automated message after your CTB date. If he isn't pro-choice then there's a 99% chance your message will freak him out. The only exception to this would be if you have a terminal illness.

In Discord unless things have changed they say that they completely delete the records in their system when a message is deleted. That being said I have spoken openly about my own suicide many many times and nothing has happened even without deleting it, so you do you.

No, not at all. This isn't a cry for help nor for attention. It's just so tragic for me to go and not be able to tell him everything I want to tell him. That's all, I want him to know some stuff and to know that I will ctb. I have always told him everything. I was always myself around him. I can't not tell him this too, it's killing me...

I don't know about the last one, since a law in my country indicates that if you fail to offer your help to someone whose life is in danger you will get in trouble. I don't know
if my case belongs to that category, but better safe than sorry...
