  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Yes, hospitalization was helpful. Helped me acquire a $10,000 debt for a stay I didn't ask for or consent to.

It also cuts off contact with the outside world: facebook, whatsapp etc. Such policy removes access to vital lifelines like friends and family.

I think the idea is that they are incentivised to make it a dull place to be, as they're trying to discourage people from staying there too long, in order to free up facilities for others, with the unfortunate downside being that the experience is less beneficial for attendees.
Healthcare systems are designed to provide the bare minimum to keep people from complaining- I've experienced it myself with regular hospital.
For example sick people aren't even provided with a quiet space to rest- instead they're positioned side by side with nothing but a thin curtain between them and other coughing, crying, moaning patients. No attempt is made to help exhausted people get adequate rest, but the hospital is technically providing the care they're supposed to, so nobody can argue or complain, right?
All that encourages me to do is make sure I get the job done before anyone can even have the chance to "help" me knowing this is the best they can do.

I always wonder why hospitals and psych wards try to take phones/devices away. What if some of us are millennials/zoomers! How else are we gonna cope or even not immediately want to kill ourselves out of boredom? How is cold, hard reality supposed to make us want to live any more than we did before? I'm being somewhat facetious here but I seriously mean it as well. What do they expect us to do with our phones? Call a SWAT team to finish the job?
I was told that it's to make us "sit" in our emotions instead of having a distraction as that is the only way of overcoming them. It makes sense, but some people are not able to make that step yet and it can be really harmful. It can help some people on the other hand. It's opposite of individualistic approach.

Ah yes, nothing is going to make me want to live more than being reminded of exactly why I don't want to live. I also think it could help some people but not anyone who's felt this way for a huge portion of their lives.

Sometimes. It depends a lot on where you live, if you can choose your facility, whether you are sectioned or go in voluntarily and so on and so on.

I found it comforting to be protected from myself, but I knew I was going and was able to choose my unit and sign myself in. I was out in less than a week. Many people are not so lucky and can be there for quite some time. I found the group work to be pretty useless but one session did give me an insight that I still find helpful. Just for that one thing, I think of it as okay.

I will be the rare exception to say yes, hospitalization helped me. But the thing is there's a difference between what a hospital can help and what they can't.

If you're in a specific and severe episode, have a sudden problem that wasn't there before, have not had any mental health treatment before, or are in need of diagnosis and meds, it helps. When I went into psychosis it greatly helped me to be out on the right meds. The thing is that was a one off, easily treatable thing.

For issues that aren't episodic like chronic depression, personality disorders, and any disorder that you've had for a while, the hospital is essentially useless. If you've already tried relevant medications and therapies then the hospital had no more to offer you than a place to be physically contained in. Any therapy offered there is very low grade and basic. The environment won't be one of healing at all.

The hospital hasn't helped me with my long term issues, which happen to be the ones that make me want to ctb
