  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Is anyone a priest? I know the chances are not really high but maybe...? On the one hand, I am really religious (catholic) and believe in God and everything but on the other hand I have lost faith in everything. I'm not even sure if I believe in eternal life after death as I kind of did my whole life. If there is a priest among us I would really love to know your personal perspective on suicide with your background

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
"Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide. We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to Him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives."

Yet another example of how the church drives fear into it's subjects. The church should pray for its own house, for there are sinners amongst them, some of whom have ctb.

I understand your need, coming from your background of faith but I'll be honest with you...a priest has no more knowledge of the afterlife than you or I. They do not have a special line to God.

Exactly, they're just ordinary people. A lot more tedious than the rest of us, but still ordinary people.

I absolutely don't wanna make fun of this but I really doubt there are priests in this forum. (In the past asked whether there are psychologists/psychiatrists in this forum noone responded.) I think the chances are higher to find one if you called a suicide hotline or the samaritans. Or you could go to your local church.

I.did suspect one person on here as being one of 'gods 'representatives, but like you and me, THEY are human too and face the same pain and ' tests ' that we face.!

You never know. I've interacted with suicidal Catholic priests on a forum for victims of childhood sexual abuse. (They were victims, not molesters, ofc.)

I don't think it's uncommon for Catholic priests to lose their faith. A lot of them get disillusioned with the Church.

You are right. But if we are talking about probabilities it is more likely imo that one of our 500 guests is a priest who has read the NYT and now wants to save lives. This person would be in disguise and would not want letting us know that fact.

I think this scenario is more likely than a suicidal priest. But both scenarios are possible.

I have a feeling OP wouldn't mind receiving a PM from a non-suicidal priest. In case that doesn't happen, this is what a Catholic priest would say:

"Life is sacred & beautiful. It's a gift from God, but it doesn't belong to you, it belongs only to Him. That doesn't really make any sense, but don't think about things. Kneel & say 40 Hail Marys in 2 minutes."

I read a sad tale of a priest with Bipolar who did a lot to help others with mental illness, but then he did CTB...
