Seems like most on here are driven/haunted by their history of being abused and/or mental illness. Has anyone else had their life shattered beyond repair by the criminal justice system? They made an example out of me in my teen years.

Hey love...I don't have a criminal background, but I know of many persons (family/friends) who do from their younger yrs, and have still gone on to be very upstanding, successful individuals..Many of us have made asshole mistakes when we were younger, and even still now..Depending on where u live and the position u r applying for, many employers don't put too much weight on bad behavior (criminal charges) done in a your teens..Just b open and honest..
You also have the option of becoming an entrepreneur..☆

My brother-in-law, in particular, served many yrs in fed prison for drugs and money laundering when he was younger. Today, he is a very successful entrepreneur and political figure in his country (was deported upon release from federal prison). There is def still hope for u..♡♡♡

I'm facing criminal charges and potential prison time for a rather innocuous crime that has no victims and no harm done to society. My life will be harder than it already was if I'm convicted. More items added to the list of the reasons I'm a loser. I was already fighting a steep uphill battle, and the battle just got steeper, and now I'm wondering if it's worth it to keep fighting.

I spent a night in a jail cell and was cautioned for an offence. I don't like what I did (not going to reveal details) but I don't regret it. I'm convinced I could not have behaved otherwise (no free will). Now I have an irrational hatred for police; even though I know they're necessary and useful, I still hate them now because of my experience. The criminal record I now have angers me more than it saddens me. Can't wait to quit this hellhole called life.

I completely understand. I assume you are in the U.S.? Many lives have been destroyed this way. However, many people have gone on to be successful entrepreneurs. Many lead happy lives. I know how hard it seems now but if you start your own business of some kind where they don't ban those with criminal convictions you will find it is indeed possible to succeed after what you went through.

I'm sure a lot of what you are experiencing now is post traumatic stress disorder. A good education also can go a long way toward establishing your own feeling of confidence if that is in some way open to you.

Let me know how you are doing please if you want to. Talk it out on here if you want.

Yes, I'm in the U.S. I suffer from OCD, and someone last night told me to kill myself so I don't know what to think. I'm going to college but it feels like it's all for nothing. I'm never going to be allowed to pursue the career I want. I don't want to live a subpar life.

Well you probably won't be allowed to be a cop. Or a teacher. Or do anything involving handling money for someone or some company. Plus lots of other things. I suggest trying to find something and taking classes that will allow you to be self employed or have a small business so you aren't out there trying to find someone to hire you. I read about a convicted felon who went on to start a chain of used car dealerships and is now a millionaire.

I have a clean record and I plan to keep my record clean not just for (potential) future endeavors, but also so I can always have access to my gun rights. Living in the US, especially in a state with relatively lax gun laws is a big incentive for me to stay out of legal and civil trouble as much as I can. With that said, if I ever find myself in a situation where I have a criminal record or something dubious that closes certain opportunities in my life, depending on what it is (whether it can be expunged or cleared), it would certainly be an additional reason (on top of a shitty existence) to end it.

No....but I'm tempted to become violently criminal so that I can go to prison and hopefully be in isolation where I would be safe til i die.

Hate to state the obvious, but prison is no walk in the park. What exactly is it you want to be safe from by being in prison?

You think prison doesn't contain the same elements of society as the outside does? In fact, prison contains a very biased sample of the absolute worst aspects of society.

I didnt ask for your opinion

Just because you didn't ask for their opinion doesn't mean they aren't going to provide it. This is a forum, that's generally how these things work.

Incidentally, @KiraComplex's opinion was spot-on and identical to my own.

Are you talking about protective custody (PC)? I can tell you that you will monitored much more closely, the system views PC custodians as high risk

Between their lack of understanding of how prisons work, and their lack of understanding of how forums work, I would be very surprised if they were actually old enough to be in either.

Depending on the crime you can always hire an attorney to have it expunged from your record in a few years.

Sorry mostly not true. My significant other tried this in USA and it's not possible. Shit follows unfortunately. Felons are pretty much stuck for life.
My significant other has felonies he got when he was younger. It's stuck with him. He isn't suicidal, he is too much of a narcissist and is being financed by his mom for now. I predict when I go he could turn a corner and become suicidal. He is very smart and can't get shit for work. My empathy goes out to you. It really sucks and is way too punishing. My only advice would be to try and go for something that may not require background check...like being an electrician and working for yourself or construction. I don't fucking know. Take care.

I never want to go back to jail and the only way to guarantee that is to CTB. I will always be the kind of person who makes bad decisions.

The prison-industrial complex was never about rehabilitation, only profit. Another reason why society needs to look long and hard at itself before wondering why people want to CTB.

I had a felony that I was able to expunge 3 years later with the help of a lawyer. I can now legally answer "no" to questions about convictions on job applications etc. it is possible.
