If no, is there any way I can thicken it without buying another?

Are you going for partial suspension? If so, it can be mostly painless as long as you cut the circulation off in the right spot. If you're super concerned though, how long is your rope? My best guess would be to double-loop it if possible, like make sure the rope goes around your neck twice to cover more surface area, if that makes any sense.

(I'm not using a rope for mine so I'm not sure what will actually work here, please take my suggestion with a grain of salt)

I really don't know how accurate it is, but according to this wiki about hanging -

it's not as though the wider the rope is , the better. so just be careful with your choice of how much to expand the rope's width. I guess that 8mm would really be unnecessarily painful (even though my rope is of the same width).

Whatever is used should have a sufficient specified breaking strain and be static (i.e., not stretch). The width of the ligature matters. Contrary to popular belief, wider isn't more comfortable. Yes, it may be more comfortable on the skin initially, but the inability to close the arteries quickly makes it uncomfortable with the extreme head bloating. The preferred thickness is finger size or smaller. If you still want to use a belt, you can't tie the belt in knots to the doorknob, but you wedge the other end in the door jamb and close the door, as shown here

I'm not really sure how you can expand the rope without ruining it

It's 8m, not sure whether that's much or not, but I feel like it's long enough. Probably going for a partial too

It's fine to double it up ? doesn't complicate anything with 2 loops pressuring possibly different parts of the neck ?
I might try doubling as well if it reduces pain while not lowering the chances of success

i think 8mm is quite a popular choice for partial

8mm seems a bit thinner than a finger, so I think it's ok

btw i guess it varies from person to person depending on how long your neck is but, for me (short neck), any more than 10mm and its hard to get the rope inbetween my jawline and adams apple without it partially resting on my adams apple and causing a choking sensation

so eg. for me i would only use 8mm for partial and 10mm for full

ps. i did experiment with trying to put the rope below the adams apple instead, but couldnt get it to work
