Yes, a doorknob can work. Are you short enough to have the doorknob above your head when sitting?A doorknob should work, but probably better to have something a bit higher up to insure that your full weight (or most of it) will be on the noose.

If you run the rope over the top of the door and secure it to the handle on the other side you eliminate the issue of height. Well unless you are wicked tall.Similar threads
