  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Imagine you have to ctb without much knowledge what is lethal and what isn't...I am very grateful for the internet. Let's hope it does not get more regulated. I have read many uneducated femaleworkers on the rice fields in China commited suicide with pesticides. This is the reason why it was the most used suicide method for a long time.

Since I am a basement-dwelling vermin I should probably use pesticides to ctb, tbh.

Sometimes I'm jealous of 1920s and 30s celebrities who could just roll up to the Pharmacy and get a prescription for N.

In days of yore, committing suicide was acceptable in some societies. So yes I can imagine ctb in another century, knowing that I would not be judged by people for my decision. Remember, these were the times be for psychology existed to enlighten us on how we should live.

I'd imagine it would be easier, just as it is in poorer countries today. The west likes to make it impossible.
On the other hand suicide was illegal in my country back in the day. If you survived, you could do time, or your family could lose their property if you didnt.
Hell I guess its possible that in the past if you failed the government would do it for you

it's easy in some scenarios I bet. Like if you're in the revolutionary war or ancient times where all chemicals are unregulated

My first attempt was pre-Internet. I was such an ignorant kid. I was 100% certain the half-bottle of Valium I took was going to be enough to kill me. It just gave me a really long, deep sleep. Nobody ever suspected. At least I was spared the humiliation of a public failure, but it's been fear of another failure that's kept me alive this long.

I suppose it was easier in some ways long ago, though, with more known poisons being easier to obtain. I'm talking like 1800s.

I would probably get a gun and fight a guard or commit some crime to get executed. Only to the military or guards, if it could be in a duel to the death as well. It depends on what I had in my hand and the social class to which it belonged. Also enlist in some absurd war and always be in the front line.

Attempting suicide was punishable by death in Britain a few hundred years ago, I would have loved that personally.

Also no good samaritan laws, legal N, heroin, guns, cyanide, chloralhydrate, etc.
Lack of medical science too, less chance of getting revived.

Also enlist in some absurd war and always be in the front line.
Pulling up without chainmail and attacking everyone in sight indiscriminately, ignoring fatal injuries to inflict more damage.

Well likely you weren't going to live a long life back then anyway. Could be 20 years. 40 would be like living to 100 now.

The 1960s was peak suicide imo, if you couldn't blag actual N from your GP you could gas yourself in your car, or even stick your head in the oven. The boomers who tell younger folk they don't know how privileged they are are often missing this fundamental point imo.
