I'm kind of wondering how realistic it is that they restrict sodium nitrite, and what happens after that

Can you even order it online still in most countries outside N. America?

The restrictions that exist don't seem to be getting any worse. Sometimes one has to wait for a vendor to restock. Some vendors ask for confirmation that it's for a company. Some countries regulate it more than others.

And sorry but can you remove the "method" label from your post, please? You're asking about rumours, not about a method.

I don't necessarily mean like "it'll run out any day now" but I'm worried if sodium nitrite will ever be able to replace things like hanging, which is more painful

I don't want to cause panics, either, but it just seems like there's a possibility that sodium nitrite is only a somewhat-temporary solution

I could see things like the Debreather or Sarco gaining traction, but on the other hand if Phil Nitschke is in his early 70s he might pass away before any part of that becomes widely sold

The easiest method is probably train suicide and apparently they charge your family for that in Japan and in the Netherlands and Belgium, not to mention all the ripple effects you cause (similar for jumping in front of a car)

Jumping off a building or bridge (in the relatively few places where there are high enough buildings/bridges you can access), is uncertain and probably terrifying

Most people have to keep retrying (look up David Foster Wallace's suicide), and essentially are just giving themselves a torturous execution

Maybe some people really do just "apply the right pressure on their carotids so it's painless" or have a ~pleasurable experience similar to autoerotic asphyxiation is sometimes described (maybe for those people it isn't actually pleasurable exactly but a form of self-punishment), but for me it was agony and I imagine it is for others as well

Descriptions of hanging when the drop-method isn't used seem terrible

It's so comforting that we have an easy access to SN. I bought it 2 times abd didnt have any trouble. Now I'm buying one for the 3rd time but I'll hide it better lol

Even charcoal is tricky

I mean if someone was fully aware of SN and had a bottle of it but decided to hang themselves anyway, that's their decision, but very relatively few people have bottles of SN, and most people have sheets/belts/scarves/etc

SN has been restricted where I'm from for a long time. It's not terribly difficult to buy since it's not illegal as a substance... it's just sellers have to protect themselves in case you decide to make a bomb with it.

People like me who have access - those without scruples or those with humanitarian motives - can continue to make SN available on the DL.

I hate to play this role, specially because i have also commented on and created some threads regarding SN that only added up to this substance's rise as a popular method of ctb.
But the truth is, the whole idea of openly discussing methods of suicide in a website that's easily found on the open web is bound to gather unwanted attention at some point.
This situation was foreseeable from the start.
Now i'm not bashing on the site, as i'm very grateful for having this place to vent and all the information i gathered and learned is thanks to this place and to the people who created it and actively run it. But i think a more discreet aproach would have been wiser. Now we are in risk of losing acess to a easy and affordable method.

NO . Sodium Nitrite is essential for industry . It will be produced always . Over 2018-2019 several suppliers stopped selling to individuals , require you'd be a company and show license for using that stuff in your production etc .

I'm sure some US artisan meat-curing radicals will fight it.

American countries (other than Canada) have bigger fishes to fry and/or are generally lax about chemicals . SN availability could be a problem for Europeans .

I honestly can't say where things will go :) I said for the regular person it's not harder to purchase SN , but suppliers for private buyers have dwindled . There is a huge push in the UK . US is pushing EU with N . They all want to clamp down on suicide . So I don't know .

I wouldn't sound the alarm yet (like you did lol ) but yeah , get your SN while you can (no panic) and yeah think of future alternatives .

I have no ides at all :)
If it's a "kit" then yes , it will be banned for sure .
If it's DYI (where a person makes it at home) it could be viable .
