;-; can someone give me some advice? I am literally suffocating and in unbearable pain every single day and i have no idea how to get better. I still have a lot of things i want to do and experience, but its been like this for years and i dont know what to do anymore.

i dropped out college 1 year ago and ever since, my days have been unstructured, i've been smoking weed, jerking off, taking to claude ai, doomscrolling all day to manage the pain, living inside of my head, dissociated. I've been going to emdr therapy and also i am on medication, but i am just dying everyday,

any interaction welcome

What is your diagnosis?
What are your symptoms?
How is it affecting your daily life?
What have you tried?
What are you taking or doing now for the pain, if anything?
Do you have a support network?
Do you have the financial means for a health/accountability coach?
Any interests aside from those you mentioned?

I'm glad you're doing some proactive things. You do need some structure put back into your life. And ways of being more constructive with your time at home while you're dealing with the pain. That way you would feel better about yourself. I have severe insomnia, ME/CFS and Long Covid. So, I can relate to a lot of what you're going through.

ty for responding, basically, i think i have always been out of touch with my body and feelings, i think it has to do with childhood abuse, maybe getting molested in my sleep by my dad? i just pretended to be asleep and forgot about it the next day, but i think it had a big impact on me, but a couple of years ago my friend died by suicide and ever since i have been devastated and i would wake up everyday with such immense pain in my chest and stomach, and i just dont know what to do because the pain is so bad i can hardly even think and i cannot even do they smallest thing.
I'm just suffocating in feelings of shame and self hatred, and this makes connection hard, i find no sense of community anywhere, not even online or on this forum, i'm so isolated and alone and i just don't know how to explain what is going on with me because i dont even know anymore. I'm not exactly sure what advice i am looking for, advice isn't really what i need because i have all the information i need, its just that i can do anything with it. does this make sense?

i need to stop smoking weed i think but i tried it just hurts so much.

A few things come to mind as I read this. Well, my heart breaks for you. I can't fathom what you've been through. Did you ever confront your father? I hope your therapist is helping you through this. I'm sorry but I offer unsolicited advice. I can't help it. Have you looked into incest survivor in-person group therapy? Have you read The Body Keeps the Score? It's about how traumatic experiences can show up as mental and physical ailments. The book offers hope and suggestions for recovery - including EMDR. Back many years ago there used to be a therapy called Primal Therapy. It was really RAW, where people screamed out their repressed childhood trauma. John Lennon of The Beatles (in case youngsters don't know who he is...) used it. The idea of letting it all out sounds really satisfying.

I tried sand tray (?) therapy, where you move around little plastic figures in sand. I thought it was so stupid, but wow it was fascinating how effective it was. And art therapy!!! That helps so many people.

I'm so sorry you lost your friend. No words. And it must be triggering being here seeing so many people suffering.

The pain in your chest and stomach - might it be Functional Dyspepsia? Is that what your doctor says it is? TRAUMA can cause it.

(Please tell me you aren't taking a benzo - because that can make your life a living HELL.) Your stomach issues might be Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Your chest pain could be GERD, even trapped gas.

Here's Functional Dyspepsia Info, according to Google AI:

Functional chest and stomach pain often stem from Functional Dyspepsia or visceral hypersensitivity, where the gut and brain miscommunicate. Tests show no structural damage, but patients experience real discomfort, burning, or pressure. Treatment combines acid control, nerve-calming medications, and lifestyle adjustments.

Common Symptoms
    • Burning or pain in the upper abdomen and lower chest area
    • Early fullness or bloating during or after a meal
    • Nausea or excessive belching
    • Discomfort triggered by stress or specific foods rather than physical damage
    Medical Treatments
      • Acid reducers: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 blockers to lower stomach acid and soothe irritation.
      • Neuromodulators: Low-dose tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) to calm gut nerve pathways and reduce pain signals.
      • Prokinetics: Medications to help your stomach empty faster.
      • Antibiotics: Used if H. pylori bacteria is found.

    Lifestyle and Mind-Body Care
      • Eating smaller, more frequent meals
      • Avoiding high-fat or spicy trigger foods
      • Practicing stress-reduction techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or meditation

I've been similarly struggling with being unemployed/out of school and just finding myself wallowing alone in my apartment everyday. It's hard to find the energy to go out and do stuff, but on my good days I go out and just try to do one thing. It sounds dumb, but if I'm going out once a week to get food or necessities, I might as well go out and get some Boba, or I might as well go out to eat, or I might as well stop by the pet store to look at cute animals.

If you feel that you're at a place where you can leave your house, I highly recommend volunteering at an animal shelter. That's what I did last year, and while initially I only went so I could pet some cats to help me feel better, I ended up building connections with the people that I volunteered with and also liked the knowledge that I was actually doing something helpful with my time. I only went once a week for a few hours, but it helped me. It also helped that it gave me an excuse to go in my pajamas/bad clothes, as most days I didn't have the energy to put effort into my appearance.

If you don't feel able to leave your house, I'd recommend finding just one thing that you can spend 10 or so minutes on every day. If you have money available, you can try things like art (I can help you find products if interested), baking (that way you can also get sweet treats for when you feel miserable), or learning instruments. If you don't have money, I recommend using apps/videos to learn sign language (to me easier than learning a verbal one), movie recommendations to watch in bed, or doing light stretching.

I was a HEAVY c.ai user, and within the past two weeks I deleted my account. It's hard, really hard, but at some points its been hard to decern reality from fiction, and overall I think that at least limiting Ai use would help socializing. Instead what I do (hear me out), is I write self insert fanfictions instead of using ai. It also helps build writing skills and keeps you focused on that task for a while.

I don't have any therapy recommendations, and right now I'm preparing for a stay in a ward, so I don't know if that would help your situation at all. My biggest advice is to not try too much out of the blue because you're so used to not having structure, it'll be hard if you try to change too much. I hope this helps in any way :(

I think you're trying to cope with an unbearable amount of pain in whatever way you can and I don't think you should beat yourself up for the weed, scrolling, and everything else. I lost my mum to suicide so I can definitely empathise with the pain of losing someone close to you in a traumatic way. I don't think thats something that you ever really learn to live with.

I agree that the weed is probably not helpful but as a recovering benzo addict I can also appreciate that its not ever easy to just quit.

i'm sorry that you feel like you have to survive this on your own. I can't DM on here because i'm a new user, but you're always welcome to reach out to me in the future.

i simply do not know how to stop being so hard on myself. like genuinely, i seriously do not know how to get better. the answer is simple probably, and the path to recovery is probably a lot easier than what is going on right now, but i cant seem to stop it. i cant seem to stop abusing myself, i can't seem to get out of my head, everyday i am just enduring the pain and every day has been the same for years now, my body has been chronically braced my entire life, i know what i need to do, but i just... can't seem to do it... and i've tried so hard, and i know all of this trying is useless, but i can't stop that either

does this make sense? sorry. i am high right now, its the only way i can type and write out these words. i feel stupid writing this, i'm not exactly sure what i'm asking for, i have been through this process so many times before, i dont know

it makes sense, I don't think you need to apologise for not knowing exactly what you're asking for. Sometimes you just need somewhere to put all of the things that are going around in your head.

If you have spent years being chronically braced then it can be really hard to logically think your way out of something that your body and nervous system have learned as a way of surviving. You deserve the same patience and compassion that you would probably give to someone else who has been through what you have been through.

My only advice really is to take very small steps to add a bit of structure into your days again, like going for a short walk, doing certain tasks around the house etc. It's difficult because I don't know you as a person so it's hard for me to visualise what might help you 😅 I also don't know if your therapist is aware of how bad you're feeling?
