I'm actually losing sleep over this new youtube video about the forum.
I hope this is my anxiety playing up and it's not as bad as I think it could be if it gets wider attention.

It's an annoying video, but I don't think the creator has a large enough audience for this to go viral beyond his own sphere of subscribers. There might be an uptick of people making accounts to either yell at the users or try and get them to choose life in the usual saccharine ways.

It's only been 14 hours and has 121k views as I'm typing this. Who knows how many views it has in a week?
It only takes one more creator of the same size to really spread the message.

Well the way people here keep talking about and replying to the thread where the dumb video is linked might make it go viral. Best way to combat that video is to not click on it and tell everyone to ignore it. take it as something not worthy of discussion because it isn't. It's just a. Attempt by a YouTuber to make money

Last time I looked 7000 views here on the thread Linking the video in only 11 hours . Could be up many more thousands by now . Why keep adding the clicks? Each click helps the video in the YouTube algorithm. I would ignore his video. Every click gives him money and makes his video stronger against this site. I really don't care what that youtuber said or does.

Just one of the problems I see with growing the popularity of that dumb video is that I think many of those people posting comments on the video ( the pro-life comments against this site) will make accounts here to degrade this site. I haven't watched the video and won't . I'm just going by what others posted on here.

I'm not too worried. The best thing we can do as users is report content we think shouldn't be on the site. (Harassment, trolling, etc) This makes the site admin's jobs a lot easier - Instead of them browsing the forums reading posts looking for something, we can report it and then they can make a choice with the moderation queue.

Another way their "caring" hurts. After seeing that video, I'm closer to CTB than I have been in many many months. It just proves that they don't care about anyone here. They just want to feel morally superior. That's evidenced just by the fact that the video talks about people who have doxxed and caused members of this very community to off themselves.
They don't want you to kill yourself, they want the pleasure of telling you to kill yourself. As evidenced by the fact that someone recently offed themselves after being doxxed by one of those "Crusaders".

I'm not terribly concerned about the "safety " of this site. The existence of the video does remind me that I need to continue to be very careful about the tone and language I use when posting threads or responding to posts. I absolutely will NOT view the video. Each view, especially from users on this site, can possibly re-enforce that his opinions are valid. same dude ive been feeling so much worse mentally after this video. these people legit dont realize how much damage theyre doing with shit like this. they say they care about suicidal people but then proceed to treat us like a cult full of sadistic predators who encourage young impulsive people to die when most of us are just regular people who have been suffering for years and want a space free from toxic positivity thats present anywhere else. like this site is the only place where i can be open about how i feel

That is only a large number of views in the absolute sense. Nowhere near enough to go viral in a way that will seriously harm this site beyond a percentage of those people coming here to spread platitudes until they get bored.

I'm less concerned about a second creator spreading the message than I am this specific creator pivoting away from his normal content and making this into an ongoing crusade, especially if he releases multiple videos over a short period of time. Even then, his footprint outside of YouTube is fairly small relative to other people who might make it viral.

I'm kinda worried. I think there are a bunch of lurkers here now. I checked his twt and some of the comments on his post promoting the vid are saying they found this site are just looking now. They won't be here to understand, they're just going to try to weaponize what they see. I'm hoping it won't gain more attention and a bit surprised more here aren't worried.

Something I love about this forum is that so often I find another has perfectly compiled my thoughts and laid them out in a nice presentation, which then reads here very nicely. I go "Haha, yes, that's what my rambling rant was supposed to be!"

You are 100% correct. I am a super reactionary person who has only become more "radical" since my downfall. "I have been hurt, so I want others to hurt."

What would have been super cool, and originally I thought this was what he was doing, was that he would embed himself in the community and actually talk to people. So I was let down when this (say what you want about him, fact is he's a successful music content creator who I was already subbed to) put out this preachy and empty crap. I for some reason expected quality journalism, for him to ask questions from us directly and make the video with us rather than against us. Would be really cool if he had come here with honest intent. We could have helped him and he possibly could have helped us. Exchange of ideas is a good thing. I see now there was never any real dialogue. He came here with his mind set and he got exactly what he wanted.

He's got 300K+ subscribers and "only" 148K views right now. Looking at comments, quite a few non-subscribers are being offered this video.

Either way, there's not really anything we can do about it, I don't think.

The article was not putting the site in a positive light, but as someone that was desperately looking for help, it provided the path and I now have my method of choice that I'm comfortable with. It's annoying that people who are not suffering to the point they wish to ctb try and dictate what others should do. And feel noble about it. Behind this arrogance is the belief that psychiatry and "help" aren't pseudoscience and are, instead, a viable solution. This false premise puts me at odds with them as I know psychiatry is a pseudoscientific shitshow. I saw this article today about a mental health blogger suiciding in a psych ward with a poison she ordered from Russia, and it mentions a forum, too. Probably here.

I watched the video out of curiosity. Many people who claim they list facts don't list the whole facts. Some others choose to list false info as facts.

The video won't be popular. People have short attention spam. It will attract more members due to advertising

That nyt article was how I found this place, while looking up ways to ctb painlessly. After finding this place and reading the same kind of things I am going through, just knowing I am not alone in how I feel has helped me immensely. I have had everyone who I have ever tried to tell that I don't want to be here anymore tell me how selfish that is of me. That was what had kept me from doing anything until I found this place. Now I honestly feel like I am doing a bit better just knowing I am not alone and it is not selfish of me, and that is just because I was able to find my way here. I can't say that sometime in the future I won't be back to feeling like that but for now this place has helped and saved me. I am not worried about his video, it might send people here who need help. Most people who think like he does might put up a fuss but they won't care enough to accomplish anything.
