Discussion If you were stuck in a tiny room for 5 years, would you rather your companion be a person or a snail/slug?

I prefer the latter.

I've always felt an overwhelming sense of dread talking to people, because against any logic, I can't shake off the feeling that they'd rather see me hang myself than put up with me. I can't help it, and I end up feeling as though the only place I belong is in my room. I still try my best to talk, but I never really feel any better.

I mainly just find the latter to be more appealing because of a personal preference. They tick a similar curiosity in my head that I have with people, but I feel safer. Do they live with emotional purpose other than to survive and reproduce? If so, why? What's it like to be so slow? Is it painful? What's it like to carry a shell everywhere you go? Do you ever feel as though your brittle shell is useless against most forces? What's it like to be in the rain? Have kids ever bullied you out of curiosity? Picked at you with sticks? Poured little grains of salt on you to see if you'd dry up? Much like humans, there are a lot of interesting questions to noodle on, but it feels more comforting to me, in a way. It feels almost cozy. I can't quite word it right, but it feels cozy in a similar way to how being in a womb would seem cozy.

It's an interesting question to noodle on, and I'd like to hear other thoughts on it.

I would pick almost anything over a person in that situation. Slug, cat, koi fish, nearly anything other than a human.

Definitely, I'd pick the snail.

That said, can you survive completely alone? No human interaction whatsoever? This place is my most regular source of connection with people and, I'd miss it terribly if it went.

But actually living with someone? I think we'd piss each other off. I feel like I need a lot of alone time.

I think it depends who the person was. If they were some obnoxious, hateful asshole then probably the snail. But if they were kind then probably the person.

Sorry but I'm gonna have to pick the human on this one. I've always hated snails and slugs. I don't even care if the human is Logan Paul or someone similarly unsavory.

As someone who's been in this scenario, I'd choose a person. You start to go a bit crazy when you have no one to talk to or do anything with. Watching a slug/snail move about gets boring fast, and five years can feel like a long, long, long time. Even if the person makes you feel uncomfortable (everyone makes me feel uncomfortable), I'd still choose the person. Someone you could talk to. Someone you could do things with. It'll probably still be a sort of hell, but a more bearable one than a room shared with a snail. However, if the snail could talk...
