I guess this poll is more aimed at people who are considering this method and have given it some thought and research.
Nevertheless, would be interested what peoples views are on this.

I have adventured on train tracks for my own amusement, and have considered it- not my way to go personally, but here's my thought process.

Regardless of the method, you will feel the train coming towards you from the vibrations on the rails. Laying onto the tracks will intensify that, and is sure to fill you with mortal terror. Headbutting would take a significant amount of willpower as well, as you are seeing the train rapidly! approaching you.

Standing on the tracks, looking out into the forest (at least in my case) is the best way to make your peace. You will still hear, feel, smell the train coming, but at least you won't see it.

Would really depend on the train, if it's coming at questionable speed I'd try decapitation. Otherwise it's probably headbutting while doing meditation techniques to stay in place.

The only "sureshot" way is neck across the track I guess. That's like my third choice method behind SN and hanging

Headbutting sounds the cleanest as far as the dying experience should go. Why laying on the tracks isn't nice is because the train wheels aren't razors, they won't cut you cleanly but rather crush you and chew you up. Standing straight with you back turned isn't nice either as you might not die instantly if your head doesn't get hit hard enough.

Not considering this as my actual method but is my preferred one. Ik that sounds a little strange but not using due to personal preference for not involving others where possible (e.g train driver).

It would be a toss up between the first two. However I chose first because the idea of facing away seems very SI inducing to me. If I did that I'd probably be more likely to get cold feet and move away. Much rather just face it and know what's coming I guess.

i stood a few times the last months at different railways...

problems were:
- SI kicked in while waiting for a train
- bad conscience because if the train driver
- not drunk enough to ignore this SI-shit when the railway is vibrating and you know you will be slaughtered by the train soon

felt even worse after not being brave enough to end it

but... there where a few impulsive moments when i heard a train coming. so sooner or later it could be one of these moments to succeed.

but if you jump in front of the train - make sure not to jump too far - could be fucking shit if you survive without your legs or paralized...

The sound of the train coming when neck is on the rail is absolutely terrifying. Getting louder and louder. And you know the driver probably sees you... But it is completely painless

I wonder how many fatalities on average tain drivers see in their careers. They must be very mentally strong. I'd be very shocked if there were any drivers who hadn't had to cope with running someone over

I researched this method pretty extensively, only SI holding up.
It's just a matter of time for me now.

I considered this method at one point but decided against it for many of the reasons already mentioned. One that wasn't mentioned is that if a train driver saw you with enough time they would blast their horn which would be terrifying. If I absolutely had to then I would choose head first to hopefully increase the chances of death on impact

I wish I had the luxury of just going with other methods.
For now I'm stuck with train and partial (and I suck at that).

Regarding the horn: plan is to jump out just a few seconds before train passes through.
Would also be interesting to know how people react to such loud noise.
If it's to freeze then surely that can't be a bad thing when it comes to this method.

This is a brilliant thread. While I'm normally against forcing another person, like the train driver, to be an instrument of my death, desperate times call for desperate measures.

I voted for the "headbutting" method. While always pictured myself jumping under a train, to be crushed by wheels, headbutting is far more effective. Many trains have something called a "cowcatcher" attached to the front at the track level. It's meant to push aside any animal, including the two-legged kind, that wandered onto the track, rather than letting it get under the train wheels and risk derailing it. An adult's waist is above the height of a cowcatcher, and the cowcatcher itself is shorter than the human upper body bent at 90 degrees. (Well, cowcatchers on trains in the 19th century were huge, to effectively push away buffaloes, but cowcatchers on today's trains are much smaller.) Which makes headbutting the train very possible. I'm a railfan, so I know a lot about train design and railroad operations.

Oh, and it's more effective to "headbutt" far from the train stations, since trains travel at higher speeds there. Like using a crossing nowhere near any station. It's also best to use a crossing with a just a signal and no arms. Train drivers know the design of every crossing they pass. And a crossing without arms means it's low-traffic, so the drivers don't expect to come across a pedestrian there. Which means they're less likely to expect someone to use their train as a CTB tool.

The website https://railroads_fra_gov (USA only) may have maps of "usable" railroad crossings. (Replace the underscores with dots.)

Decapitation is the only one that's appealing to me. I don't trust it being reliably lethal in other scenarios.

I am biased, though. My father survived being [accidentally] run over by a train when I was in high school. It the wheels did not come anywhere near his neck, which I feel is a good way to ensure success.

Well, you can either catch the bus or catch the train. I would put my neck on the rail, but it's certainly not my method of choice.

I had considered trains given how many of them there are right near me and easily accessible. What steered me away from it was the impact on the driver of the train. I don't believe they would be unaffected. I have read of the trauma that some engineers face after an event like this, even if they could not have avoided it. So, even though I voted (facing away from the train) this would not be my ideal way to go.
Also, an interesting aside- my grandfather had his foot cut half off by a train.

A level crossing would be perfect. Would also solve the CCTV problem I'm currently having.
Unfortunately where I am there isn't any near by and I don't have a car or license.

A level crossing is most obvious for CTB'ers, and train drivers know this. A better bet would a grade-separated crossing (over or under), where you climb up or down to the tracks from the street level. It's better because train drivers don't expect a person to be there. But it's also worse because of the risk of getting caught by the police. The worst place, however, is around train storage yards: not only the police, but also the criminals/gangsters hang out there.

Was a train crossing I came across today, the temptation to just end it there and then was overwhelming. With deep unending desperation and despair this method makes sense.
