At least that's what I've found. I thought that because places like Reddit's /r/depression /r/suicidewatch had suicidal people that they would be empathetic or be okay with suicide but that's far from the case. Many people unfortunately are actually insulting to people who go through suicide and are just on another spectrum of "pro-lifers".
I've realized that I'm a pretty weird person. I've had homicidal ideation, attempted to assault my parents, tried suicide many times, gotten into non-violent trouble with the law. A lot of people online who have depression or suicide haven't had these issues. They generally care about their families, can be "molded" into society, don't want to kill people, hold mostly pro-social beliefs, and most importantly can be guilted quite easily. That's why someone can be suicidal for a long time (and you've seen it here as well) but when they attempt and their family tells them that "it's the most selfish thing you can do", they can never attempt suicide.
I've learned not to expect any sympathy from the vast majority of people. People are far too attached to their families, wanting to live, even many with suicidal ideation. I don't judge them for not killing themselves but I do take a problem when they then start to spew out pro-life platitudes.
