Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I am rather skeptical about donating. Maybe I am even cynical. I was raised in a very selfish way. One close friend of mine boycotted the Nintendo Switch 2 because of the price policy and donated a similar amount of money to various NGOs. Also to palestine. Another friend of mine also donates very frequently.

I am extremely scared about poverty. I will never be able to work. I might even ctb because of it.

I wonder which advatanges would I have donating money. It would feel good I guess. Or bad depending on your mindset. My friends would have a better image of me. My dad would probably call me stupid.

Tbh we are all in our friendgroup don't want to become like our parents. But I think on money I am probably pretty similar to my dad. I think I save more money. I use my money in a more Strategic way.

There are some projects where I would not donate. I watch an independent mainstream YouTuber. He has almost 2 million subs. I know financing independent media is Very Important. But this dude certainly does not need my money.

I am skeptical about donating to victims which get a lot of media attention. I think these people already get a lot of money. I was on a pro Palestine protest recently. I have the feeling it needs political pressure to solve this catastrophe. I am not sure whether money can really solve this issue.

I would maybe aim for an effective altruism approach. And look where my money could make a Real difference. In the end though I don't have that much money would it Really make a difference? I don't really believe in carma. But I believe in living according to ethical principles. However, I think preventing my suicide is sort of my first and most Important principle. I really have a guilty conscience to do this to my family. I am not sure whether I could get addicted to the good feeling of donating. I know I tend to believe in magical thinking sometimes when I am paranoid. I even thought God would send me a message at one point
Maybe this is all just a silly justification for not donating. But I think I would get a Bad feeling from it. In the end when I kill myself I will tell me that the society spit in my face and this is why I am faced to Do this. I also experienced severe bullying. And I am not sure whether the money really ends up at the person I would want it to.

One could say even a small amount can make a difference. But maybe people with a stable income should donate first. I don't know. Maybe it is something one should not think through rationally.

What about you?

I've donated to various software projects over the years as well as content creators I enjoy. I have all ads blocked for Youtube so I feel like directly supporting content creators is the least I can do.
And look where my money could make a Real difference. In the end though I don't have that much money would it Really make a difference?
I personally live by the belief that large scale changes start with the individual. So while in the grand scheme of things your contribution may be small, you're still sending a message with what you choose to spend your money on and I think that's important.

It would depend on what my goal is. Sometimes my goal isn't to "help" people in a tangible sense, but to support a cause (for example, I used to have a monthly recurring donation to the Wikimedia foundation; I have also donated to the Internet Archive).

But in general for me it's a function of need, ie. the more in need someone is, the more willing I am to donate money. In real life, that manifests for the most part as me just giving money or food to individual homeless people (sadly they are quite common in my city). Perhaps "theoretically," on an effective altruism level, my dollar could go further by donating to a local organization that helps the homeless population, but I'm skeptical of how possible it even is to quantitatively measure these kinds of things. When I give food to that homeless person, I am helping him fulfill a basic, immediate need, that such an organization would not necessarily be able to do. How do you measure that?

I would donate to SS if I have the ability to, and people I know from SS.

When it comes to individuals, donating almost always helps, even if it's a drop in the bucket. Whoever receiving the money be would happy regardless. (Unless they're plain shitty)
For example if someone needs help with gorceries, donating even 10 dollars could help, it might not seem much, but you can buy bread to feed yourself another day for 10 dollars.

I'm also remembering once when I was on the subway, someone addressed everyone in the section of the subway we're on. Saying he needs 12 dollars for something I can't recall, and I decided to give him 4 dollars cause he had a clear amount he needed and it was a different approach then someone coming up in your face and asking for money which I hate.

I'm also sceptical about donating money, but there are other things to do good. Donating blood is one example (if you are willing, check the requirements though, not everyone can qualify). Helping out in a pet shelter, an orphanage or hospice might be a way if you have the time and energy, directly affecting the life of other living beings. Visiting hospice might actually be an interesting idea to share the thoughts on life and death. Highly recommend it if your country's policy allows volunteering in such places.

This is a tricky one. I would say Tarantino. I love his films and I hope his last one would be good.

If I ever have enough money to survive without constant fear, the rest of it goes to my friends, and people I meet that I can see are struggling. No donations to corporations ever. I would make sure the people around me do not have to live in the hell I currently am.

1. Crisis areas that need food, water, shelter, etc
2. My friends, so they don't have to worry about shit like textbook prices anymore…
3. Mental health and special needs organizations and similar stuff

This is in the hypothetical that I'm not broke, which I am.

I'm kind of late to this thread, but have this all set. Two of my relatives have all my login and bank information in case I die or take my life. After thinking about this tho, I would only donate in advance (about a week or two before ctb) to an animal rescue charity, not to any people. And only a few hundred dollars. Maybe like the save the endangered animal fund or rescue the bears or badgers. That kind of thing. The rest of it, my family can just take out of my bank before even showing a death certificate and closing the account. Since they have my login and pin already, lol. And I would remind them of this verbally and in writing (text and letter) before going thru any ctb plans. Or even if I'm dying a "natural" death from cancer. And I might also withdraw some cash for them before my death. But I wouldn't want the state or strangers to take money from my account, although I'd be dead and this life would be gone for me, so I guess it would not matter that much (also one reason I decided to discontinue life insurance policy!)
I am hesitant to donate or leave money to any environmental charities or even medical ones because they get so much funding from government anyway and a lot of money gets eaten up just to run their organizations. I'd rather see my family or small animal rescue charity get it. Although really, I don't think leaving money behind in this word matters too much. I do plan to have all my debts paid off before dieing though.

Children's hospitals and wikipedia are very deserving of monetary donations.

I did a lot and some of the times while being manic. Awful experiences, you shouldn't, specially if it's not anonymous. When you act too generous, most if not all will see a weak spot into yourself and won't be able to stop trying. In french we have a saying "tends la main, on te prend le bras" (probably something similar in english) which means if you give your hand, they will take your arm.

well people who are being actively genocided right now as I type this liike the Yemeni, Palestinians and Sudanese

And people who have had the social contract with them continuously violeted by their government like the descendants of slaves who STILL have not recrived a lick of reparations like the African Americans, Roma people of Europe, Maori and Indigenous people from North America AND Oceania, The Ryukyu and Aīnu, The Cypriots who were kicked out by Turkish settlers

And also the victims of needless wars who also havent received a lick of reparations either like the Vietnamese for the Vietnam War, The Koreans for the Bodo League MAssacres, The Chinese for all the needless invasioms and genocides that they went through, The CUbans for what Spain and the USA did to them, The Algerians, The Namibians, The Afghaniis, The Slavic Peoples for the needless Bolshevik Civil War....

Now that I thi k about itthe list is far too long. I cant even remember all the people Id give to. But its clearly a lot.

if i have a decent amount of money left after setting everything up for ctb (costs of supplies + covering some shit for my family), i'm donating all my money to animal shelters/rescues. there are a few charities in mind, but not all of them involve animals. there's someone i'd like to give a bunch of money to, just as a final gift, but i have no way of doing it, lol.
