Discussion If you deleted all your social media do you think anyone would notice for you?

I wonder what happens if you delete all you're social media and just go completely lock myself in my house for a month. I would expect no one to reach out to be honest for me.

Social media is cancer anyway and probably adding to a lot of the problems you might be experiencing. Deleting that shit is the best thing anyone can do. Try not to draw worth from what others think/say/do. It's you vs the world baby

My only "social media" is SaSu. I don't have any irl contact (anymore) with anyone here, so there is no one to reach out if I go "dark". I'd just fade away like dust in the wind.

I don't use Facebook at all anymore, so no one would notice that. I used to post often on Instagram until February. No one noticed me quietly disappearing from there, so I'd say no

I don't use social media- i have Snapchat and I go here and on discord. Sometimes when I go ghost on discord my internet friends definitely start getting worried. Messaging and eventually texting or snap chatting me.
Honestly, my discord friends care more about me than anyone irl

I deleted Facebook way back in 2011 and it's horrendous how much worse it's become. I've definitely had people look at me weird for not having any socials, but I quite frankly don't give a fuck. I had Twitter for like a couple months tops way before the current moron in charge of it took control. Nowadays I only use Discord to chat with my friends, YouTube for media, and Bluesky for news. Every other social media is slop garbage that hurts my brain to even try to engage with. I have friends send me Instagram links only for me to tell them that I can't view them half the time because I don't have an account.

Lord help you if you want to then erase your digital footprint, because many of these websites have a rapist mentality (to quote Louis Rossman) and will put up so many barriers so that they can keep your data.

Very confident that no one would notice. I've always been the active one in relationships with other people. Most people are too busy working ten hours per day or doing something by themself to notice the existence of other people.

I tried this. I feel like my mental state has gotten so bad that I only really ever have bad things to say. I realized I was a burden and attempted to delete everything.

Then a friend reached out and said I should come back, but when I did it was exactly like before. I feel like no one prioritizes me and sometimes friends don't respond to my messages for weeks. I think they just feel bad, but I know I'm a burden.

Basically did this at a confused time in existence, clawed some back for a while after, and it really was not worth the effort.

In fairness the same went for seeking people out in person, and somehow those were all the foreshocks of COVID.

for the longest time i used to think no one would possibly care. I could go months without talking to anyone and I thought no one would ever care. But at the start of this year i had made some amazing relationships with people who actually do care, and try thier best to check up on me and be there if something is happening. It does get better and I wish all of you guys the same fortune i had gotten <3

Yeah, honestly I went dark because of a stalker I had. But with all due respect you shouldn't get your validation from other people. Whether you hate yourself or not someone would definitely find you amazing, but the problem is trying to find a way to feel that about yourself... And ultimately you can unless you're actually able to change your perspective. I went on tangents before about how hard it is to change your perspective but it's doable.

Honestly social media and self-isolation are a toxic combination. I noticed when I was homeless a few years back I never CTB even when I slept outside strangely

Maybe? Only people who would notice are the two friends I send reels to on a consistent basis on Instagram lol. And that's just because they'd think it's weird I'm not sending them anything

People have noticed in my case (deleted all socials after joining this site way back,) but I still think people on social media just view you as an object by which they can get validation for listening to themselves talk. It spies on you, sells your data and shows you an endless feed of colorful content that is meant to be worthless and disposable, meant to distract you, radicalize you and entice you into wasting your life. Corporate execs in Silicon Valley are dedicated to making it nigh impossible to turn away from. It's terrifyingly similar to drug addiction. Kids these days have collectively decided to coward away from direct confrontation, and instead form these parasitic relationships of "mutuals" who just orbit, will only think of you when your name and profile picture disrupt the monotony, and only care for themselves. If they don't notice, fuck them! They were never worth having in your life to begin with. I think social media is more than worth removing from your life, regardless of who you are. If people care about you, they will actually try to message/call you and get to know you. Maybe it'll make you less depressed while you're at it -- I couldn't be happier without it.
