It seems like ODing heroin is a relatively rare suicide method despite it sounding pretty painless, so why do people choose something like SN or hanging over heroin?

SN is legal, heroin isn't. And drug ODs are not always lethal, it can cause more pain, and if it wasn't lethal you could survive but with severe organ damages.

This is simply because not everyone has access to heroin, at least not legally, especially for people who are risk averse when it comes to legal matters and wanting to stay on the legal side of the law. Additionally, even assuming that one doesn't mind taking the risk of legal complications from such an endeavor, there is also the risk of getting scammed and robbed, ending up in a worse situation, yet alive. Finally, for those who don't know how to use the drug, especially through injections and/or have other difficulties in administration of the drug, it could lead to failure and permanent damage, along with other problems while still being alive.

i've tried heroin twice and both times it was horrible drug via smoking it, i think it's because they would have to injected it and it's kind of hard to get right with having to sterilize everything and removing impurities from the mixture with cotton wool balls, plus it's hard to get without access to the darkweb plus you don't know the purity of the heroin you'll get, but i would be up for giving it a shot if i can find some heroin dealers or users on the street, i think 1 gram would be enough but it runs the risk of ending up with brain damage or worse

hard to inject. Also naloxone if you are found.

I think to use this method would need to use heroin a few times to learn to inject?

I snorted it just once and it made me feel really sick. Deffo prefer weed.
The only person I ever met who used it regularly smoked it

i think most people that die from heroin are automatically ruled an OD rather than a suicide unless there's obvious proof it's otherwise. might be wrong on that.

also, the whole sitch of crushing burning and injecting the heroin is a lot for most people who aren't druggies like that.

shame because it's my ideal method but pretty hard to pull off

i read up on this, some of the times heroin od isnt painless, its paralysing and sometimes a person can feel like they couldnt breathe while panicking. and they cant do anything about it because their whole body is in a depression (in the literal sense not the mental health kind) and if you live you could have organ damage... then again maybe that only happens to actual addicts.

Dosing is very difficult. It's not like a pill or a medicine where you know each pill/physical amount is giving you a specific dose, the actual amount of the substance you're intending to CTB with can vary wildly because all street drugs are cut/mixed with fillers. Sourcing from the same person is no guarantee because they're also getting a new batch every time they re-stock, and they can only judge the potency by their buyer's vague wording about it being strong or weak, etc; nothing approaching the accuracy of pharmacy medicines.

With the difficulty of dosing, it is easy to end up in a situation where you're still conscious but struggling to breathe, unconscious but don't die and suffer brain damage or other permanent negative effects, and various other undesirable situations, the risks of which are too high for most people who want a planned, relatively peaceful CTB.
