A general and personal question.

I really think that I admire places like /sanctionedsuicide on Reddit even though there was heavy moderation. If you think about it, with all the condemnation of suicide on the internet (hard to find a pro-choice forum), I don't believe I'd have ever found anyone open to suicide IRL to be honest nevermind on the internet.

I think people like us look large in numbers on the net but realistically, this is a global (or at the least US and Europe dominated) forum. Before I found this, I tried to talk to people in my class about suicide but they gave me the same old B.S. platitudes and one guy who said he had depression was ironically very hostile and the most dismissive of me.

I visit a popular national forum in my country but everything is "shoved under the bus" if you try to discuss suicide. It's seen by people here as a symptom and never a legitimate solution (lived in UK and Ireland). They tell you to pay money (€60 fucking euro) to see a General Practitioner who will prescribed 10 benzos and that's it. Idiots.

No. Never. 0% chance. I only found it here.

Mods can do sometimes things I disagree, but crearing this was the most beautiful thing they probably did.

Curious what country you live in. Are people very anti-suicide, neutral, or pro-choice?

Suicide rates are minimal where I live, so nope.

Ultimate anti-suicide. And anti-euthanasia, anti-basically everything about no life.

I guess in other countries is also like here, some things never change.

Regardless of the country, many people here are isolated or hikikomori. And even if they have relationships with others its very limited.

Suicide also is a taboo or a bizarre idea for people and they don't accept it generally. Religion, state and many other stuff make it a prohibited thing. I think most people here are struggling to find a space to talk even online and its hard/impossible in real life.

Do you hear about suicide stories or its extremely rare? And do you think there are unreported cases so that lower the percentage (happens much in third world countries)?

In 27 years I only heard about one suicide here and it was the brother an acquaintance I had in college. I haven't watched TV in many years, back when I did I also never saw suicides being reported. Of course, it is not like people here don't kill themselves, but the rates are minimal compared to places where suicide is considered an actual "problem".

I live in a "developing country", which is some sort of euphemism for a country that is neither shitty enough to be called third world but also not a "developed" place like a first would country.

It's the same with me, "2nd world" suicide is common though. Hey we gotta lead some statistics after all... most popular method is hanging because everything is illegal.

On a personal level, I'm pretty socially inept and very anxious around people. For that reason alone, it would be pretty difficult for me to find a group of like-minded people outside of the internet.

Even if that weren't the case, I don't know how I'd even go about finding anyone with similar views on suicide. If you share your feelings about suicide with the wrong person you'll risk being involuntarily committed.

Probably only among close friends who are aware of the matter and its implications. This is a very touchy subject for the majority.

Nope. Almost everyone has been brainwashed to see life here on this planet as an amazing gift, no matter what.

Because everything in mental health an psychiatry is about suicide prevention, I doubt I would have found a group. I only know one person who agrees with me and my views. Suicide is characterized as cowardly and bad, and from my experience the masses don't really question or analyze what they're told. Suicide can be good. It can even be beautiful if we allow it to be.

Suicide prevention is an invasion of privacy.

Hmm, if I lived in a large, metropolitan city, then.....(*sigh*) I don't know. Maybe? Obviously that's just an uninformed guess, so whatever. You'd never see something like that in this podunk fucking town though, that's for sure. Not in a million frigging years. However, even if I could access a physical group like that, on top of being in a world without internet, I wouldn't. I'm an anti-social hermit, so there wouldn't be a chance in hell that I could attend a meeting with other live human beings, no matter what it was about. Posting on this website feels uncomfortable/awkward enough, frankly. Fundamentally, I detest social interaction of all kinds and, ideally, I'd like to never come here, or write another single word online ever again.

Yeah you could definitely find a group of people IRL who are suicidal and might want to gab about it. But for like a minute. It's not really club material. Look at this site- we're not a lot of friends and we barely have conversations even; one person will share their story and then other people will share theirs with some small replies to others' comments. It's mostly sharing, venting, and drifting away. There's been, and probably are, nationwide groups for people as hated as pedophiles (for example) to communicate IRL so.... yeah it can be done but why? You meet up, you groan, then you.....go bowling? Or if you just sit in a circle and talk about the one topic, hooo surely that doesn't sound like a good time, surely. Here you can say your piece and click away. IRL yu'd have to drive there, talk for an amount of time, actually listen to everybody who showed up... People wouldn't return often, unless they did become friends or got some kind of agenda or goal to focus on....idk if it'd be productive towards suicides, maybe, maybe that's smth worth looking into if you think it'd be motivating.

If you want something casual, then do mention suicide IRL. Not to your sister or your uncle but a coworker or person you've been talking with in a bar. On SS, I only hear people say they are talked at with platitudes.. which are rampant, of course, but there's plenty of other sentiment too...like straight apathy or refusal to comment..

No, that's close to impossible. Although I live in one of the biggest cities you won't find anyone who is pro-choice. Everyone considers it an illness and they will treat you like garbage.

Of course not. I was so greatful to find this place. It may take multiple tries to end my life but at least finally I can openly talk about this stuff without judgement. Of course the people who like u in your life are going to be against your decision to die. Especially if they like u a lot. Hell even if they have never met u in person some people are against u commiting suicide. I no longer talk to those people who are trying to talk me out of it or trying to encourage me to keep going because now I've got this place to go to.

If they really like me, they don't force and torture me anylonger. And if they like me and still do such thing, they are stupid.

We would be the worst group of pen pals ever: lots of monologues and international postage, with few responses. If the community were a paper newsletter, that would be interesting but I can hardly imagine how word-of-mouth could bring in new members as the old ones died off.
